May re do the test: A TSH level of 6.03 suggests thyroid deficiency, however it would help get free T4 level done and may be TSH re done to make sure the result is accurate. It is not an emergency, but you should keep your appointments with your doctor and follow his/her advice. ...Read more

Hypothyroidism: That TSH level is very high, consistent with hypothyroidism. It is unclear why the t3 (liothyronine) and T4 are normal with such a high tsh, so the levels should be repeated to ensure there is no lab error, and add a free t3 (liothyronine) and a free T4 to the tests, and consider adding thyroid antibodies to determine autoimmune thyroid condition. ...Read more

My tsh level showing 9.1 . my doc did an anti tpo check value is normal (26) . also did thyroid scan , it is also normal . doctor didn't prescribe any medicine. bit confused what could be reason for high TSH

Low thyroid: Although most thyroid disease is caused by an autoimmune disorder, some people's thyroid may just not be functioning well. You need to get this test repeated plus getting thyroid hormone level at the same time to make sure this was not a lab error. I think I have hypothyroidism, but my doctor will only do a TSH level test and he says that it is normal. Aren't there other tests that can be done?

TSH is: usually adequate, however, there are patients with technically "normal" tsh's that aren't in an "appropriate" range for age. On some of those, a clinical trial of BRAND NAME T4 replacement may sometimes be attempted, but you need to have defined guidelines before initiating replacement. Make sure your free T4 has also been checked, If you have questions, see an endocrinologist. ...Read more
