Is it safe to give lactose free formula milk for babies. My baby is 6 month old now.He is on lf milk from 3 month....Is it safe...He develops loose poo?
Multiple: Some depends on whether the baby is breast fed or bottle fed but most babies stool 1 to 7or 8 times per day. Some can even skip several days> most important is the consistency not the frequency. Babies should have soft to watery stools not hard little balls of stool. ...Read more
Hello, my 6 month old baby has been getting dark coloured specks in poop. I introduced solids a few weeks ago and it has started after that.
Probably nothing: The color of poo is related to how the colorizer, the deep green bile, is modified as it travels to the exit. When you introduce new food items, the breakdown products will stain differently and some may retain the super dark green color while others transition thru green/yellow to brown. I can't think of anything bad this would represent. ...Read more

How fed ????: A breast fed infant may stool a bit every feeding or an overflow diaper once a week. If it is soft it is not constipation. If formula fed, the pattern is more likely to be a few daily or at least every other day. If stools are soft & baby feeds well & plays, there is no reason to be concerned. If a poor feeder & not wetting diapers at least every 6 hours, i would have her checked. ...Read more
What to do for infant 5 weeks who is constipated. Breast fed with rice cereal in pumped milk for reflux, also on Zantac (ranitidine) two times daily. Has not had bowel movement in two days and is very fussy
Depends on situation: If baby is breast fed they may stool a little smear every feeding or one big crib full once a week. Breast milk is so well digested that it may not leave much behind for poo. If it is soft, the frequency of stooling is not important.Formula babies go more often, generally 1-3 times/day.. ...Read more
Is constipation in babies normal? My 1 month old girl has constipation and doesn't poop every day and her stomach feels hard?
What is constipation: In a one month breast fed baby no poop for a few days is normal as long as the poop in not hard. Babies in the first month or so have frequents pooh so this change to less frequent pooh causes much worry but is normal regardless on apparent straining. At this age babies also have periods of unexplained crying which sometimes are attributed to gas or trouble with pooh. This is not the case! ...Read more
3 months old infant.. Recently changed formula from 'novalac' to 'NAN' pooping continuously after every fed. Is it normal?
Common: In infants it is common for them to have a bowel movement after each feed. Most important is to see if the child is behaving and responding well. If baby is sucking well, feeding well, has no vomiting, smiles and is active, there is no cause for concern. But if you remain worried take the baby to a pediatrician to have the baby checked. ...Read more

My 6 month old on solids but didn't poop for 4 days last time when he pooped first its very hard he can't pass it n after its soft is he constipated?
Yes: Constipation in infants is not defined by how often they go, but rather the consistency of the stools. You describe hard stools that are difficult for the baby to pass - that is constipation. I would start with adding extra fluids in the form of water or juice to help soften stools. If don't feel good about the addictive/sugary juice, then can use MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) daily, adjusting dose until soft stools. ...Read more

1 month old, formula feed infant has dark green poop that smells like skunk (sometimes stringy looking)...baby is gassy as well. Is this normal?
Could be: The first thing I would want to make sure is that your child is gaining weight appropriately and thriving. If that is the case, there are numerous things that could be of help, such as different formulas. That decision can be best made with your child's doctor who will know what formula your child is and/or has been on. Good luck. ...Read more

Something in pooh: If the baby is growing and thriving there is nothing to worry about. If not these could represent poor absorption of fat and require a visit to your pediatrician.
