How Many Shots To You Get If You Got Bit And No Animal To Test For Rabies
An infectious disease caused by a virus. The most common carrier in the United States is infected bats. Symptoms of rabies include an initial flu-like illness followed by increasing paralysis, agitation, and confusion. The classic drooling symptom is due to an inability ...Read more
My friend was bit by a raccoon while attempting to get it out of her garage. Should she get rabies shots?
Depends: Did you provoke the cat? If so, and the area of your town/city has no known rabid animals over the past year, then it's unlikely. However, get the cat to the vet for his vaccine; the cat may need to be quarantined for a few days, to ensure it doesn't have rabies- though inconvenient, it is more humane than cat euthanasia followed by brain biopsies to check for rabies. ...Read more
I was bit by a lil stray cat 8 months ago(no visible blood at the wound), couldnt take rabies shot then, can i take them now? culd i still get rabies?
Fortunately: you are well beyond the infectious period from an animal bite you received 8 months ago. Rabies immune globulin after bite exposure is very rarely given after 3 months. It sounds like what you should consider is the 4 dose series of rabies vaccine to help prevent rabies should you unfortunately be bitten again by an infected animal. Good wishes:) ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I was bit by a (2 month old)stray cat 8 months ago(in India), couldnt take rabies shot then, can i take them now? could i still get rabies?
Take the vaccine now: The incubation period averages 1 to 2 mo but may be >1 yr. May still be worthwhile giving the vaccine even though quite late. Chances are the cat was not rabid but never delay vaccines when indicated. And if in doubt always consult a local doctor or your own in the US. Good luck! ...Read more

I was bit my a rabid dog about 2 weeks ago, took tetanus, kamrab and abhayrab shots that day and subsequent abhayrab shots, could I still get rabies?
Rabies treatment: Rabies treatments are spectacularly effective - so even if you were bitten by a known rabid animal, you will not get rabies. One of the best things you can do after a bite is wash the wound with soap and water -- that alone prevents 90% of rabies infections. Then you were given appropriate treatment so it's a 'done issue'. Best to keep pets/other animals vaccinated against rabies so they don't die ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Can you get rabies from animal;that is not droolin, is not aggressive and is lying in water? my dad got bit by that kind of dog, any chance of rabies
Yes...: Just because a dog hasn't started to demonstrate symptoms of rabies does not mean that they are not infected. Your dad should seek medical care - his physician (possibly along with local health department) will determine if there is a need for rabies vaccination. He should not delay seeking this care. If the dog is known, it should be quarantined for observation for 10 days. ...Read more
Rabies shots: Most people do nor receive the rabies vaccination prior to animal bites except people with increased exposure due to occupation. The vaccine is given post "suspected" rabies exposure along with the rabies immune globulin, human (hrig) injection. Local wound care should also be initiated. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Yes, several shots: If a person was bit by a rabid animal, and he got: his wound properly washed out, his rabies IgG properly given, and his rabies vaccines properly given, all within the recommended time periods, then he can presume that he will not get rabies. Nothing is 100% certain in life, but proper rabies treatment works. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I got bit by a raccoon, got the first few shots to prevent rabies, can I make out with my girlfriend?
If my cat that bit me had rabies wouldn't the cut look and get badly infected? The cut is completely healed now. Should i be concerned?
Not necessarily: The rabies infection would be independent of anything that causes a local wound infection; when you develop symptoms from rabies, it's already too late for treatment. Rabies has a 99.99% fatality rate if untreated. If there is any chance the cat had rabies, you need to discuss with a doctor about evaluation. ...Read more
