Could two pediasures a day make a toddlers urine smell? I can't get him to drink many clear liquids.
Likely Concentrated: If all he's really drinking is two pediasures, then he's probably a little dry. His urine may be a little concentrated, giving it a smell. He should be drinking nearly triple what two pediasures would give him, in either milk or water. Plus vegetables and fruit which are high in water content. Make sure he's well hydrated, and contact his pediatrician if you're unsure that that's the issue. ...Read more

Pediasure: Pediasure is a nutritional supplement designed for use in children during periods of illness, poor appetite or inadequate weight gain. Although the body will eliminate excess water soluble vitamins, it will store fat soluble ones. ...Read more
Real food better: Pediasure is specifically designed to help increase the calories in children with failure to thrive (determined to be underweight by their physician). Unless recommended by pediatrician, the best place for your child to get nutrition is whole healthy food choices. Kids may not eat like we think they should, but they listen to their bodies and get what they need. Model healthy habits - it helps! ...Read more
Confusing question: The nutrition value of this drink is gained by ingesting it as a supplement to your diet. Diluting it with water would drop the calorie/nutrient value per ounce, but if the amount of original product remained the same, it would not change the value. Some might find the texture or taste more acceptable in diluted form. Dilution will not harm the product. ...Read more
Needs other sources: Pediasure only contains a small amount or iron. The child must need iron from other sources in the diet. Pediasure only contains 15% of the days requirement for iron. Iron suppements can be used or foods containing more iron should be introduced in to the diet. Meats, fish and green leafy vegetables are good sources of iron. ...Read more

Other supplement: At your age if you want to use a supplement I'd choose one for adults such as Ensure or Boost. Of course, there is also just the old upping your caloric intake every day by 20%. Also, has doctor checked things like your thyroid function to make sure that's not your problem? Sounds like time to discuss concern with doctor and a good dietician! ...Read more
I suppose: Pediasure is a dietary supplement that is designed to meet some of the nutrition need of growing kids. An adult could gain some benefit from its use, but would get similar benefit from less expensive products like Carnation Breakfast Essentials if a shake like drink is desired. I prefer a good steak balanced with a few sides, but that's just me. ...Read more

My 1yr old hasn't gained weight since her 9m appointment. Dr put her on pediasure. She refuses it. I've tried mixing with milk, too. Advice?
Nutritionist: If you have exhausted your options given by your doctor, I would ask if there is either a clinic nutritionist you could see or a pediatric nutritionist associated with either a hospital or another practice. It can be very difficult to find the right regimen to help with weight gain. Nutritionists can be very helpful in this regard. ...Read more
I'm curious as to whether pediasure and carnations breakfast essentials is healthy for my 2 year old? He eats but in 6 months he has gained no weight
Not gaining weight: Pediasure is better for a 2 years old as it is a meal in itself as it contains the right balance of carbs, proteins and fats for a growing child. If he is a picky eater the try to give him a glass of Pediasure with meals 3 times a day. If his eating is not a problem then his doctor will do more of a work up if he continues not to gain weight. I hope this helps. ...Read more

Is it ok to give my healthy 16 month old son a 6 oz bottle of pediasure everyday? I usually give him before his nap time. He drinks cows milk too.
It's likely ok, but..: He should not get in the habit of getting his nutrition and calories from supplements, rather than eating a healthy and varied diet. He does not NEED Pediasure if healthy and of normal weight and growth. Indeed, you run the risk of obesity with the extra calories from daily Pediasure. Finally, Pediasure is hardly cheap. Spend the money on a book for the child, and start a different nap routine. ...Read more
