How many glasses of vitamin d milk should I drink per day?

How many glasses of vitamin d milk should I drink per day?

0-4: If you are drinking it for the vitamin d, you would need 5 quarts to get what is the minimum for most adults, that is 2000 units daily. If for calcium, each glass has about 300 mg of calcium so intake would depend on your age and sex. It is best to spread out the calcium source because the ingested calcium lasts only 6-12 hours. At low intakes, the body will take it from bone. ...Read more

How many glasses of vitamin d milk should I drink a day to help with my depression?

How many glasses of vitamin d milk should I drink a day to help with my depression?

Not the best way: If you're deficient in vitamin d, drinking milk is not the best way to replenish this. In the us, most milk is fortified with about 100 iu of vitamin d3/cup. This is not the active form, either. Given that the usual recommended daily dose of vitamin d is 1000 iu, you would have to drink 10 cups if getting your "d" solely from milk. Better to use a supplement if you need extra "d" by testing. ...Read more

Cow's Milk: At 1 yo we recommend starting cow's milk. It depends on the patient's weight, but you can start with whole milk and then your pediatrician will tell you according to his weight of another type is needed (skim, 1 or 2%). Most whole milk in the US is fortified with Vit D. Limit the amount to 16oz a day. Too much milk can cause iron deficiency anemia. ...Read more

Many hazards: Most doctors would say milk is fine to give but there is good reason for caution; if milk is not organic it is likely from cows given bovine growth hormone (possible cause of cancer) and fed gmo corn. Drinking a cup of milk (daily) fortified with vitamin d is it enough to get my body need of calcium and vit d and without exposing my body to rhe sun?

NOT EVEN CLOSE!: A cup of milk has 120 iu of vit. D. While the recommended daily intake (rdi) is 600 iu, most adults actually need 5-8000 iu/ day to achieve optimal levels. The rdi of calcium is 1000 mg and a cup of milk has about 300 mg. In most of the us sun exposure does not help in fall ; winter- you need to supplement. May need Mg also: Along with my colleagues' suggestions for higher dose of vit d, you may also need more magnesium (mg). Mg is needed to convert vitamin d into its active form. Also all the enzymes metabolizing vit d require mg as a cofactor. Eat lots of vegetables, nuts and seeds; you can also take a mg supplement (malate, citrate, etc) 200-400 mg/day. Doing this may successfully increase your vit d level. ...Read more

Is there a difference between calcium/vitamin d supplements and drinking milk?

Is there a difference between calcium/vitamin d supplements and drinking milk?

Yes, for vitamin D: Milk has only 400 iu of vitamin d per quart and most people need 2000-5000 iu per day to get their blood level above 50 ng/ml. So you would have to drink at least 5 quarts of milk to get enough vitamin d. The vitamin d level is enough for an infant but not for an adult. ...Read more
