A Lot!: Vitamin d is best produced in the skin with sunlight! when we live in climates such as areas in canada and we can't get adequate sun exposure and we are at risk of vitamin d deficiency. We have supplements, but our milk and juices have also been fortified with vita d. Vita d is necessary for strong bones. Eating fatty fishes such as mackeral, sardines and tuna also help prevent vita d deficiency. ...Read more

NOT EVEN CLOSE!: A cup of milk has 120 iu of vit. D. While the recommended daily intake (rdi) is 600 iu, most adults actually need 5-8000 iu/ day to achieve optimal levels. The rdi of calcium is 1000 mg and a cup of milk has about 300 mg. In most of the us sun exposure does not help in fall ; winter- you need to supplement.
