How Many Follicles Does Clomid Typically Produce
If you produce more than one mature follicle on clomid, will your body typically release all of them, or does that only happen with an HCG trigger?
Today I had ultrasound to see how many follicles I produced on clomid, I had 4 follicle, two were 14, and two18mm, what are chances of multiples?
I read that taking Clomid on days 3-5 produces a lot of follicles but not so strong but taking it on days 5-9 will produce few but strong. How true?
Have taken provera/clomid from 25mg-150mg. Not producing big enough follicles.. What should be my next step?
Need a diagnosis: The first "next" thing is to have a firm diagnosis or diagnoses. If you are missing any elements of a basic fertility eval you need to complete it. Sounds like you are saying you don't get a dominant follicle on CC? Or don't ovulate? Depending on your diagnosis you might boost the CC with metformin or dexamethasone, or may be a candidate for gonadotropin treatment. Good wishes. ...Read more
Why such low chance of twins/higher order multiples on clomid, when it is so common to produce more than one follicle? Does hCG trigger up the odds?
Clomid: Clomid patients do have a higher rate of twins than spontaneous pregnancy rates, but proper clomid use usually leads to fewer appropriate size follicles than the injectible fertility meds. The advantage is less chance of ovarian hyperstimulation, which can lead to torsion and surgery/possible loss of the ovary. Hcg won't necessarily increase twin rates. ...Read more
Age 38, took 50 mg Clomid days 3-7, one 20 mm follicle and one 15 mm follicle on cd 11. No pregnancy, should my dose be increased to help produce more?
Not necessarily: Different docs will manage this differently. In my practice, we check a Progesterone level a week after ovulation to determine whether to increase the dose. Your ultrasound looks fine. Too much Clomid is not always a good thing since it can dry out the cervical mucus and lining of the uterus. Check with your doctor as he/she likely has a plan. ...Read more
Possibly: Clomid generally is used in women that do not ovulate on a regular basis. And yes, it should cause a follicle to grow in size and should cause spontaneous ovulation, or the release of an egg, when the follicle gets to 22+mm in size. If it is much bigger than that, Clomid may have caused a simple cyst to develop and not an egg follicle. Hope this helps. ...Read more
About 20-22 mm: For Clomid cycles we usually trigger with HCG once the follicles are 20-22 mm diameter. We also monitor estrogen and lh in our clinic so sometimes we will trigger a bit later or a bit earlier. Also if the endometrial lining is a bit thin (<7 mm) we may wait a bit longer and let the follicles get a bit bigger. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
