How Many Follicles Does Clomid Typically Produce
If you produce more than one mature follicle on clomid, (clomiphene) will your body typically release all of them, or does that only happen with an HCG trigger?
FSH stims follicles: As the name implies, fsh, follicle stimulating hormone, stimulates the growth of follicles in the ovary that contain eggs. Suppressing fsh can cause a woman not to produce an egg. This can occur with stress, weight loss, intense prolonged exercise, dieting, travel, birth control pills, and medications like leuprolide or ganirelix. ...Read more
After egg matures in ovary, does it releases estrogen to signal brain to release LH even on Clomid (clomiphene) cycle? Or the process different on clomid (clomiphene)?
Once the corpus: Luteum (maturing egg) starts producing estrogen, it feedbacks to the hypothalamus and pituitary gland to inhibit gnrh/lh/fsh production. Clomid (clomiphene) selectively inhibits the estrogen receptor in the hypothalmus which 'tricks' the body to release more fsh, which inturn causes growth of more ovarian follicles, and subsequently rupture of follicles resulting in ovulation to increase fertility. ...Read more
3-to-6 cycles: Many factors besides fertility medication go into achieving a succesful pregnancy. In appropriately selected couples, meaning normal semen parameters and healthy fallopian tubes at a minimum, cumulative pregnancy rates with Clomiphene are 85% in 3 cycles and around 95% in 6 cycles. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Ovulation: Ovulation typically takes place 14 days prior to the menstrual cycle. Therefore, in a 28 day cycle, ovulation usually happens at approximately day 14. In women who have cycles greater than 28 days, ovulation will take place later than day 14. In women with cycles shorter than 28 days, ovulation will take place earlier than day 14. Ovulation is an event that takes place in a matter of a few hours. ...Read more
Does increasing FSH (puregon) doesage increase the rate follicles grow/make you ovulate earlier or only increase number of follicles produced?
Why such low chance of twins/higher order multiples on clomid, (clomiphene) when it is so common to produce more than one follicle? Does hCG trigger up the odds?
Clomid (clomiphene): Clomid (clomiphene) patients do have a higher rate of twins than spontaneous pregnancy rates, but proper clomid (clomiphene) use usually leads to fewer appropriate size follicles than the injectible fertility meds. The advantage is less chance of ovarian hyperstimulation, which can lead to torsion and surgery/possible loss of the ovary. Hcg won't necessarily increase twin rates. ...Read more
Prolactin?: If by "lactate" hormone you mean prolactin, it's a pituitary hormone that prepares the breast to secrete milk. It is generally high only during pregnancy, but can be elevated by some medications and pituitary problems. If your prolactin level is high, it can interfere with fertility for several reasons. Check w/your OB for more info. ...Read more

Ovulation: In women with regular menstrual cycles, you will ovulate within 24 - 48 hours after a surge in lh hormone levels. You may see other symptoms that confirm ovulation such as change in cervical mucus, some discomfort . If the egg isn't fertilized, you will typically have your menstrual cycle 12 - 14 days after ovulation. In women with irregular cycles it's hard to predict when this occurs. ...Read more
