How Many Ct Scans Are Safe
None or a lot: The question is less about how many are safe and more about the question you're trying to answer. If you've been in a major car accident and are bleeding to death, 10 cts are very safe. If you are just curious to see your insides, none are safe. It is a decision of the risk of the scan versus the benefit of the information gained. It should be discussed with your md ordering the exam. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Ct uses xrays taken an 360 degrees combined with a computer to see"inside" the body. The table moves as the xray tube and detectors spin around the patient 10 times a second or more! the image shows excellent soft tissue detail, enhanced with injection of intravenous contrast or oral contrast. This way the body is shown in slices, in any plane, usually axially, but ...Read more
May be: Ct scans are done to further evaluate the illness, when no other better measure is available and knowing the problem will allow a timely management and prevent the complication. Ct scans carry several times more radiation exposure than the ordinary x rays. But for certain illnesses properly done ct gives a timely information. Parent should keep record of it to avoid unnacessary duplications. ...Read more
I had to have 5 CT scans over the summer. With having been exposed to that amount of radiation is it still safe for me to tan in a tanning bed?
No: Tanning is not safe and is not recommended for anyone. It increases the risk of skin cancer and accelerates facial and body aging. Sunscreen with titanium and zinc can help protect you from uva and uvb rays, but avoiding sun exposure is best. Spray tanning and tanning lotions are a reasonable alternative to achieve a bronzed look, but they may not be safe for pregnant/ lactating women. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I had 4 CT scans done on my head this year due to feeling weird and lost and head aches . Would it be safe to get a MRI ? I know 4 CT scans is a lot.
I've had about 8 CT scans in the past 2 years. Neurologist wants to do a mri. How safe is a mri? Worried of radiation .
Had a CT scan of my head about three months ago getting another for head aches and confusion .Is that many CT scans safe? Can anxiety cause that?
Talk to your doctor: If you have persistent headaches, you may want to ask your doctor whether they would consider a mri/mra instead of a ct scan. Mri does not use x-rays (unlike ct), and has much greater diagnostic value that ct in the brain, and allowis to study blood vessels without dye with mra. At your age, the likelihood of finding a serious problem is not very high; therefore stress and anxiety may be present. ...Read more

How frequent can be CT-Scans be taken and still be considered safe - esp. looking at the abdomen? I worry about Pancreatic Cancer even with IBS-C
Additive exposure : Each ct scan is well within the safe limits of radiation exposure, but each one is additive in terms if exposure, making ct scan a poor choice for any life long routine imaging tool. In other words, the effect of radiation exposure doesn't go away over time. IF you really need serial imaging, maybe MRI is a better choice. (Note the IF part) Hope this helps! ...Read more
Had a cat scan 1mth ago, due a scintascan for my kidney next week & have been told to get another DEXA soon, last was 7mths ago is it safe to do so?
Yes.: The dexa exposes you to minimal radiation, and the other tests are pretty low regarding dose exposure. It's always a "risk benefit" analysis, and at your age the risk of radiation exposure is minimal. ...Read more
Yes: This is basically a normal creatinine especially if you are a solid-built lady. When I was working out every day, my creatinine ran 1.6 or 1.7. The GRF 's estimated are subscientific -- there is an adjustment for race "because black people are more muscular." You are not a kidney patient unless there is something else. Best wishes. ...Read more
