How safe are flu shots? Are they really necessary, or is it mainly to make pharmaceutical companies money? I'm not into scare tactics for vaccinines
They're a good idea: I don't believe the recommendation for flu shots in healthy adults is based on scare tactics/making money for drug companies. As you appreciate, nothing is completely 100% safe, but flu shots are definitely more beneficial than harmful. You are in the lowest risk group as a young, healthy adult but a shot would benefit both you & those you come in contact with. A flu shot is a smart health choice. ...Read more

Clarification: You will need to contact your doctor and confirm why you were given Misoprostol. If there was concern about an ectopic pregnancy then this medication should not be used and surgery or a medication called Methotrexate may be an option. Please contact the prescribing doctor to clarify your diagnosis and treatment plan ...Read more

Is there a recommended limit on steroid injections to ligaments to control pain? What concerns are there w/long term application?
Is it normal to get athlete's foot all the time? Like multiple times a year? Assuming you take all the correct preventative measures, is there some way to avoid having to use antifungal creams so often?
Possibly: Athlete's foot is also called Tinea Pedis. It can reoccur quite frequently if the foot is kept moist (sweat). There also may be colonization of your footwear. First, ask your doctor to confirm with scrapings of the rash/lesions that it is Tinea Pedis and not another fungal infection like Candida. Also, treatment may require 1-6 weeks so many times it is inappropriately treated and reoccurs ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is it possible to consume alcohol when you are prescribed a steroid, ic methylprednisolone for a skin rash? What are the side affects of consuming alcohol while you are on this steroid? What would happen if you do consume alcohol while on this steroid?
Nothing: I always wonder what someone means when they say 'consuming alcohol.' if we are talking one or two social drinks a few times a week, then the answer is nothing. If we are talking about getting drunk every day, every other day, then it is not good for you or your skin. There are no specific interactions between beverage alcohol and steroids used on the skin. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Treatment of compulsive disorders hello:
is naltrexone used to treat compulsive sexual disorders when they are non-responsive to ssri's? How long does it take for the medication to work? How long are patienst kept on this medication before they are weane
Experimental: Since i haven't heard of this treatment i would assume it is experimental. Most compulsive disorders wax and wane and are not entirely cured but managed by behavioral as well as medical interventions. I would thus expect Naltrexone to be used for extended periods of time if indeed it was helping. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
How long should someone be getting ECT treatments? Is once a week for 4 years too much? Not helping and they can't remember much anymore.
ECT therapy??: I assume you mean electro-convulsive therapy. It used to be used to treat severe depression but I thought that its use had been abandoned some time ago. One of its known side effects is memory loss. There are good drugs for patients with severe depression. And 4 years without success seems to me like a long enough trial to call it a failure if there has been no improvement . ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
No: It is illegal for you to drink alcohol at your age. Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever. So stay away from alcohol. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex, if you have sex. Get HPV vaccine. ...Read more
They don't work: Over-the-counter cold medicines are not for babies. They don't work in babies (or young kids). Also, the ingredients in them are often not safe for babies and can cause serious side effects. Please talk to your pediatrician prior to giving any medicine to your baby (even if over the counter). Just because it's sold in stores or in baby aisle, doesn't mean it's safe. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is it safe to do infrared physiotherapy for cough with phlegm often? How many times would you recommend? This is for baby 18 mos.
Not suggested: I would not suggest using this method of physiotherapy for your baby. If there is nasal congestion and a wet cough, most are due to viral infections and resolve within 10 days. Infants tend to swallow the mucus, and using baby nasal saline with gentle irrigation can reduce post nasal drip. If there is wheezing or an unusual sound, fever, vomiting, please see your PCP. ...Read more

Why B12 shots: What do you aim to achieve with B12 shots. If you are not deficient in B12, there is nothing to be gained by taking the shots. What drugs to be taken after stopping smoking , is home remedial sufficient as many online post say this makes health good .How much this is true?
Adjuncts to help...: prevent relapse. The 1-year success rate of quitting smoking "by home remedial" is dismal: less than 1%. (See how addicting nicotine can be!). Once you quit smoking, you are in nicotine withdrawal. 2 wks before the quit date, you should start taking Bupropion or Nortryptiline or other neuro-active agent that block cravings. (These meds take 2 wks to take effect & be continued afterwards). TTYD. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
