How long will I not be able to hear out of my left ear with an ear infection?

How long will I not be able to hear out of my left ear with an ear infection?

Hearing & Ear Infect: Fluid may persists for weeks after an ear infection -- 60% clear by 4 weeks, 75% clear by 8 weeks, and 95% clear by 12 weeks after infection. Gently, trying blowing your nose, hoping to clear your ears. Taking an oral decongestant may help, but "clearing" the ears with valsalva (popping the ears) maneuvers works best. It should not hurt, and may not clear with each attempt. Keep trying. ...Read more

Ear Infections (Definition)

There are three different types of ear infections that affect different areas of the ear. Outer ear infection (Otitis externa) affects the ear canal and the outside part of the ear. Middle ear infection (Otitis media) affects the middle ear and leads to fluid accumulation behind the ear drum. Inner ear infection (Otitis interna) is a less common inflammation of the inner ear that causes vertigo, ...Read more

I have had trouble hearing out of my left ear for three days now and it has been burning and itching. Does this mean that I have an ear infection?

Maybe, needs eval: Burning and itching in the ear along with decreased hearing in the ear sounds like inflammation that could be due to an infection. If untreated it could get worse in a short period of time so better to go get it checked out to be sure. ...Read more

Ears plugged: If you have a lot of wax, this can cause hearing loss. The bigger question is whether or not the ear drum could be seen as a result of the ear wax. If not, how could they tell you had an ear infection. Best to see someone who can clear out the ear wax and examine your ears properly. Would strongly recommend an ear, nose and throat specialist to help you out. ...Read more

I have been diagnosed with mastoiditis as it came up on my CT scan .. I have loss all hearing in my left ear, all started before ear infection though?

I have been diagnosed with mastoiditis as it came up on my CT scan .. I have loss all hearing in my left ear, all started before ear infection though?

Mastoiditis came l8r: I suspect that u had a low-grade ear infection that was "smoldering", spread to the mastoids, & then to the middle ear where it affected ur hearing. At that point, u noticed it. Unfortunately, though uncommon, this spread is described in the literature. Mastoiditis can be serious as it is near the brain. Hopefully, u've seen an ENT (ear-nose-throat) specialist to discuss ur options & get antibioti ...Read more

How long does an ear infection last and/or does it go away on its own? My left ear/left side of my face has been hurting for at least two weeks.

How long does an ear infection last and/or does it go away on its own? My left ear/left side of my face has been hurting for at least two weeks.

Ear infection: Newer recommendations in Europe for ear infections is that they let it sit for 48hrs bc can improve on its own. If still in pain then they treat it. Can take weeks to get better, depending if the antibiotic is working, since you can have some resistant cases. ...Read more

Should i be concerned if a lymph node swelling behind my left ear persists long after an ear infection clears up?

Should i be concerned if a lymph node swelling behind my left ear persists long after an ear infection clears up?

A little: A lymph node swelling is usually a sign of infection. Generally it goes back down after the infection is resolved. If you have a lymph node behind your ear (posterior auricular node) that is enlarged, it is worth checking out with a doctor. It might be a sign of a residual infection in or near the ear, or could be a sign of a lymph node disorder. Please see your regular general practitioner. ...Read more

4yr old still getting ear infections even with tubes in his ears. Already has decreased hearing in left ear. Should i be concerned?

Probably not: Insertion of tympanostomy tube does decrease the recurrence of ear infection but not totally prevent it. The real benefit of "tube" is draining the fluid cummulated and restoring the hearing. His hearing deficit should have been eliminated or minimized as long as tube remains patent. ...Read more

I recently found out I have an ear infection. My left ear feels like something in it. Is it normal to see black hairs in the ear?(i have a ear scope)

I recently found out I have an ear infection. My left ear feels like something in it. Is it normal to see black hairs in the ear?(i have a ear scope)

Hairs vs fungus: Everyone has some degree of hair in the outer portion of the ear canal, so that could be totally normal ear hair. With that said, sometimes fungal outer ear infections can have black debris (usually more like dots of black but can be more wiry). If that's what you have, Amoxicillin isn't the treatment and you will need the ear cleaned out (often by an ent) and special drops. Good luck! ...Read more

I have pain in my left ear when I swallow. No pain in my throat. Is it TMJ or a ear infection?

I have pain in my left ear when I swallow. No pain in my throat. Is it TMJ or a ear infection?

Eustachian tube: Usually pain associated with swallowing involves pressure changes across the ear drum caused when the Eustachian tube allows air into the middle ear.If you can recreate the pain by yawning this should also allow air entry and may stop the pain. If it persists, an exam is needed. This can occur while you are developing a middle ear infection. ...Read more

I have a ear infection on my left ear it's like a big pimple I had it for a year now so what's the best way to get it healed?

See Doctor: The fact that the 'ear infection' has been there for 1 year, the 'pimple' should be seen by your doctor to determine what it is. A 'pimple' that long probably is something else especially if it is not painful. Get yourself examined before a treatment can be recommended. ...Read more

I went to wipe my nose and when i push my nose to the left i get a slight pain in my left ear. I know this isn't normal. Sign of ear infection maybe?

Makes sense: The interior and exterior of the nose is innervated by the trigeminal nerve which also transmits sensation from the outer surface of the ear drum. So when you move the nose it is sensed by these branches and refers to the ear. It is unusual but makes sense. If it becomes more consistent then suggest good ENT exam to make sure nothing else is going on inside nose. ...Read more
