How long will I have to stay in the hospital after robotic da vinci hysterectomy?

How long will I have to stay in the hospital after robotic da vinci hysterectomy?

Generally < 24 hours: I do a lot of robotic surgery. I find that most patients can go home later that day (about 4 to 6 hours after surgery) or the following morning. Once a woman is able to get up and walk around a bit, urinate, and keep a little food and liquid down, she is usually ready for discharge. Because robotic surgery involves only "key-hole" incisions, the majority of patients recover much more quickly. ...Read more

Just released from hospital had a hysterectomy and unable to add gas surgery was 4 days ago how an I get gas relief?

Just released from hospital had a hysterectomy and unable to add gas surgery was 4 days ago how an I get gas relief?

Call your surgeon: Passing as and having good bowel function is very important after surgery, as the anesthesia itself can cause some bowel issues. Some surgeons will not let you leave without being able to have a BM or at the least pass gas. You do not want this to turn into a bowel issue that could lead to more serious complications. Best for you to call the surgeon and get treated as they know your case best. ...Read more

I am going to be having an abdominal total hysterectomy due to endometriosis. What can I expect as far as hospital stay and recovery?

I am going to be having an abdominal total hysterectomy due to endometriosis. What can I expect as far as hospital stay and recovery?

2-4 days in hospital: If possible consider a second opinion. If in fact a hysterectomy is needed at this time, look to a minimally invasive procedure such as laparoscopic or robotic. The visualization is better, the ability to remove endometriosis implants improved, and with smaller, less painful scars you can often be discharge on the same day or the next day after surgery. Recovery is typically 6 weeks vs 1-2 weeks. ...Read more

You: You need to contact your local county hospital. They have programs for people who are uninsured. After a financial screening they will tell you how much (percentage) you are able to pay, or if you qualify to pay nothing at all. From here you will likely need to start in one of their general medicine clinics, who will then refer you to a gynecology clinic. At that point your case will be reviewes and the doctor/team will go over your options (likely hysterectomy in your case).
If you need further assistance you can ask to speak with a social worker at your local county hospital who will guide you through the process.
Best of luck and happy new year. ...Read more

In general which has a longer recovery time a robotic hysterectomy or a bladder sling WITH a recocele repair with out mesh for the recocele?

Pain: Generally, slings and minimally invasive hysterectomies, such as robotic, result in very little pain post-operatively. Rectocele repairs are variable from person to person but this usually results in more pain than either of the 2 above. Usually, after a couple of weeks, this pain will resolve also but initially, rectocele repair is usually more painful than robotic hysterectomy. ...Read more

2 weeks: A total laparoscopic hysterectomy done with the da vinci robot makes for a much easier recovery than a traditional hysterectomy. No intercourse for 6-8 weeks. ...Read more

I'll have hysterectomy by davinci robotic method. I heard there will be abdominal swelling for awhile and pre-operation clothing won't fit. How long?

Talk to your surgeon: This is a prime question to discuss with your GYN surgeon during a pre-operative Consultation. Most surgeons pass out handouts describing the procedure, complications, and recovery. Great surgeons ALSO verbally discuss the surgery with the patient (and designated family member) prior to surgery and answer any and all questions. Bring a list of your questions with you to that appointment. ...Read more

Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
