How long will I be out of work after surgery for an anal fistula?

How long will I be out of work after surgery for an anal fistula?

Really depends: Erika - there are several surgeries for anal fistula. Your recovery really depends on not only what exact procedure you have, but also your tolerance for pain, and how important it is for you to be back at work. I've seen a range from the same afternoon to three to four weeks.

Anal Fistula (Definition)

An anal fistula is an abnormal connection or tract that connects the inside lining of the colon or rectum with the outside skin. It intermittently drains pus and can cause discomfort, pain, itching, and other symptoms. It most commonly occurs as a consequence of an abscess in the same area. This may require outpatient surgery ...Read more

Is surgery for an anal fistula more painful than just leaving the fistula alone?

Is surgery for an anal fistula more painful than just leaving the fistula alone?

No: Typically a fistula is a chronic inflammatory "tunnel" between the anus and the skin. There are many types, many treatments, and the most common surgery involves literally "filetting" open the tract to allow it to heal by itself, and thus obliterate the tunnel. This is somewhat painful, but offers the advantage of removing the chronic, longstanding focus of inflammation and pain, and so is usual.

My husband has had surgery 4 xs for an anal fistula and will need a 5th, is this common?

Not common: But not rare. Depends if the fistulas are in the exact same place and how they were treated surgically, how complex the fistulas were and whether the correct surgery was performed. Fistulas can recur if incompletely treated at the time of surgery. See a colorectal surgeon for more complex fistulas as your husband has. Also consider whether he has been tested for crohn's disease.

Hello I have a multiple opening Anal fistula for 3 years but I am to much afraid to do the surgery because of the pain how painful is the post surgery?

Truth be told: Many many patients of mine have commented that the post operative fistula removal period is a good deal LESS than the ongoing pain when the fistula is "full" Hope this is helpful Dr Z

Are any follow-up treatments needed after anal fistula surgery?

Are any follow-up treatments needed after anal fistula surgery?

Surgeon office exam: Evaluation by your surgeon after surgery to be sure that the area is healing properly would be sufficient. There is a low chance of fistula recurrence after the first surgery, depending on the size, depth, and location of the fistula, and what type of surgery was performed.

Please tell me, could anyone tell me the best treatment for anal-fistula. I have already gone through a surgery, but no result?

Surgery: Is the best treatment and although occassionally fails and requires repeat procedure, if done correctly has an excellent result. Numerous types of fistula surgery are out there depending on the location of the fistula and experience of the surgeon. See a colon and rectal surgeon or at least get a second opinion from one.

After surgery of anal fistula do masturbation have effect on healing on males?

After surgery of anal fistula do masturbation have effect on healing on males?

Not particularly: Masturbation isn't likely to help healing. But if you have a very "vigorous" or intense habits that place excessive tension on the anorectal area, there is some small chance it could be harmful.

After anal fistula to be operated. Is it okay next to my varicocele to treat? In this case. Is it better if embolization is the Mx than to surgery?

Ok w/ varicocele: Shouldn't be a problem with the varicocele. Also, embolization procedures are for hemorrhoids, not a fistula. As always however, ask you surgeon to be sure. Hope this helps!

Is there any herbal treatment for anal fistula abscess I had surgery but my it never healed thanks in advance?

Is there any herbal treatment for anal fistula abscess I had surgery but my it never healed thanks in advance?

The treatment for: An anal fistula is surgery. Surgery can be feom simple incision and division to requiring multiple procedures. Recurrence after a fistula surgery is rare but not uncommon and again depends on the complexity. Please check with your surgeon if you have similar symptoms as prior to surgery. There is no herbal treatment for it.

I had an anal fistula surgery and have a rash there now. Is it better to put Vaseline/linecaine on it at night or let it breath?

I had an anal fistula surgery and have a rash there now. Is it better to put Vaseline/linecaine on it at night or let it breath?

Rash: It depends on the cause of the rash. If it is a fungal rash, you may need nystatin written as a prescription. Otherwise, a barrier cream like zinc oxide and air are best for rashes down there.
