How long will it take a broken elbow to heal?

How long will it take a broken elbow to heal?

I agree, it depends: This depends on several factors, age (kids heal much more quickly than adults), whether the fracture is widely displaced - suggests greater disruption of blood supply, your underlying medical condition (health people heal more quickly), where the fracture is (which bone, what location) and how the fracture was treated - operatively or non-operatively. Good luck!

How long it takes for a broken elbow to heal?

Depends: Elbow fractures come in all shapes and sizes. Some need no treatment and you could use your elbow even before the bones heal. In other cases where the bones are displaced surgery may be needed. An x-ray and an examination by an orthopedic surgeon will help make the diagnosis to start the correct treatment.

Please tell me how long it takes for to recover from a broken elbow?

Weeks to months: This can be a tough injury to recover from, mainly due to the work/time required to regain strength and range of motion. The key to recovery is range of motion - in most cases, you should begin range of motion at approximately 2 weeks, and subsequently progress to more aggressive rom as the bone heals. Typically a hinged elbow brace is used to protect the fracture while allowing range of motion.

How long should my son stay out of school after a broken elbow with surgery?

How long should my son stay out of school after a broken elbow with surgery?

Depends: That would be up to your orthopedist. There are usually a day or so and usually less than a week of rest and elevation and use of ice and pain meds and then depending on the splinting and comfort, the child can return to scool with the proper accommodations. Being out more than a week would seem like a long time to me unless complicated fracture.

How long before a cast can be put on a 3 yr old's broken elbow?

Splint while swollen: The longer term cast is generally delayed until the initial swelling of the injury has subsided. This allows a snug fit so the cast will not allow excessive movement while the bones mend. Swelling tends to peak at 3 days+/- & subside enough after 5d- a week to cast. Timing can vary & the clinical judgment of the physician can decide if it's too early or late to cast.

With a broken elbow, how long will it remain painful at the wrist when turning a key ignition or door knobs? Wrist hurts 3 weeks after elbow surgery.

Elbow surgery: The interosseous membrane can be injured with elbow trauma. This runs between the bones in the forearm (radius and ulna). This can lead to pain in the forearm with pronation/supination (palm up/palm down). X-rays performed of the wrist will ensure that the distal radial ulnar joint was not involved in your accident and be a separate reason your wrist still hurts.
