Is it safe for a 6 year old to get a root canal and stainless steel crown? What are health effects of having steel in a childs mouth for a long time?

Crown is safe: Stainless Steel crowns have been in use for over 50 years to restore severely broken down teeth in children. They are perfectly safe. On baby tooth the procedure used to treat an infective nerve (pulp) is called a pulpotomy, not a root canal. While they both treat the pulp , a pulpotomy is a simpler procedure specifically for baby teeth. True "root canals" are not done on baby teeth. ...Read more

I had a root canal performed on my 2 front teeth Monday. One tooth is not hurting but the other one is. Is this normal? How long will the pain last?

Depends: The discomfort often depends upon the severity of the infection in each tooth and the root canal process. Is the pain the result of temperature (hot, cold,) or biting? Give it time. It can take a week to 10 days for discomfort to hopefully subside. I would call if you have any doubts. ...Read more

24 yrs old with horrible teeth one of my front teeth are decaying no pain just sensitivity was giving the option to do a root canal need more options?

BIG PICTURE VIEW: If you have limited resources, spending a large portion of your dental budget to repair one tooth is not my recommendation. Infected molar at bottom left jaw got two opinions from dentists. One said it is not salvagable and needs to extract. One said it can by doing a root canal and crown but he could not predict how long the tooth can stay. Don't know which advice i should

From : From your description, the tooth in question has an extremely guarded prognosis. You have two professional opinions; the first that the tooth is unrestorable, the second that it can be fixed, but long term success is questionable. Extracting the tooth and replacing it by another procedure (dental implant or fixed bridge) will be more expensive than fixing this tooth. Did the dentists discuss the alternatives and the costs of those alternatives? Only you can make the decision to restore or extract once you have all the information on your options. ...Read more

How long should I wait to get a root canal on molar after a part bony wisdom tooth extraction?

How long should I wait to get a root canal on molar after a part bony wisdom tooth extraction?

Right away: As long as you can open your mouth in comfort, i would not delay getting the root canal. Waiting only creates a greater potential for a dental emergency. A root canal is actually a much easier procedure than the extraction of a full boney impacted wisdom tooth. So don't delay and good luck! and don't forget to get a crown after the root canal is completed! to delay, risks your tooth breaking! ...Read more
