May need more: If its still draining pus, may need to be opened more. If the dressing is dry or foul smelling when you change it, it needs to be changed more often. Wash it out well too. Call your doctor for an exam I make sure it healing ok. If there is no fever or excess pain, monday is probably fine, otherwise may needs trip to the er. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Abscess: These are often due to Staph aureus, and most of these will not respond to therapy with Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate). This needs warm to hot (don't burn yourself) soaks for 15 min every few hours until it comes to a head and then puncture to drain. It may, however, require a doctor seeing this and dealing with it rather than you. They could then culture and determine the best antibiotic. ...Read more

Maybe never, but...: Tooth abscesses originate from dead/diseased tissue within the bad tooth, which leads to an infection in the surrounding supporting bone (abscess). Antibiotics may temporarily reduce the abscess (usually takes no less than 48 hrs, but maybe longer), but never truly address the cause. For this you need a root canal or extraction. Some infections will not respond to antibiotics at all. ...Read more

Hard to say: Are you on antibiotics? Was root canal therapy started on that tooth, or will it be extracted? The incision and drainage removes much of the infection, but the source of the infection will need to be addressed. Speak to your dentist regarding what treatment is proposed. ...Read more

Can you tell me how to drain an abscess myself?

That would not be -: Advisable, as without proper training and knowledge; & without sterile equipment/bandages you might be unsuccessful in getting rid of it. You'll need prescription meds as well. Its very easy to get re-infected, without proper care.
