Reaction?: If any contact with bowl cleaner or other chemical, could be a local reaction (/"burn") from that, which may look infected on exam (hence abx/anti-fungal). The warm/moist environ slows healing. Should keep dry & aired as able (don't get arrested!) while using ointments as rx'ed. Give it a week. If not improving, get re-checked. ...Read more

For life.: It's not as bad as it sounds. The first episode is the worst. Recurrences become less and less symptomatic, and less frequent until finally it stops . There is usually an interval of months, or years between attacks. Are you a health care worker? It can defiinitely be transmitted to other areas but for some reason isn't commonly.
