I did 4th Generation HIV test after around 4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,14,15 weeks of an exposure.
Is this 100% conclusive? can i get back safely to my wife
Sero-conversion: The whole concept of delayed sero-conversion dates back to old & sloppy tests. PCR testing now will show virus in the blood with or without antibodies. If you need to cling to the old adages...at 6 months..99.99% of the population will have developed antibodies after an exposure..thus the 6 month window. I believe a colleague of mine Lyssette Cardona, MD is in Dubai..she's one of the best!! ...Read more
HIV Exposure: First, if one has an acute exposure one should not wait at all. We only have a 72 hour window to prevent infection. Second, if there is a high risk exposure one can get a viral RNA test after 21 days that is 100% accurate. Third: the antibody testing that is routine for HIV can miss infection for up to six months after exposure. ...Read more

Unprotected sex: Go see your doctor, planned parenthood (yes, even for men) or county health/std clinic for testing. Get tested as soon as possible if you have symptoms. Then get repeat testing as sometimes it takes a while to turn positive if you don't have symptoms. All depends upon which std you have. Is 2 months past the possible exposure date adequate time for a home HIV test and homeHepatitis B/C test to be reliable? More wait time or is this ok?
Test yourself now: At your age, you should ask your physician for a yearly HIV check, and probably you will get liver enzymes that would clue you to having acquired hepatitis. Here's an idea, Oliver -- if the person with whom you shared love is worth it, they'll be glad to let you know whether they know their status, and take the test as well. Best wishes. ...Read more

Wait: An early test might show hiv, but you really can't know for sure until 3-6 months unfortunately. Get tested now but also get the 3 and 6 month tests. If you think this was a high risk exposure you should also be tested for other stds as well as hepatitis b ; c which can be transmitted sexually. ...Read more

Depends on type: An HIV test can be done instantly in the doctor's office (results are not as reliable), or it can be done in a regular lab. Usually not more than 2-3 days. However, many labs "batch" test -- meaning they only test for certain analytes once per week or every 3 days. So, maybe that is the delay... ...Read more
