I have a tumor in my left distal femur that has caused a hairline fracture last year. I have been feeling pressure and pain. Should i be concerned?

Osteonecrosis: Yes! be concerned. The tumor you had was probably a benign non-ossyfying fibroma. Usually, if your growth plate has closed (you've stop growing), then the bone growth won't exceed your bodies ability toget rid of the dying bone so that it won't cause problems. When you continue to grow osteonecrosis (dead bone) can remain and cause pain, or the the tumor can recur. Both require an mri- immediately. ...Read more

Fracture (Definition)

A fracture is a broken bone. As there is cartilage at the end of many bones at the joint, a fracture may also include a break in the cartilage. Fractures and broken bones are the same thing. It seems that many believe that a "fracture" is a lesser injury or an incomplete break in the bone, but this is not correct. Fractures may be displaced or ...Read more

How long does femur fracture (cominuted ) heal by using external fixation ?

Temporary fixation: Fracture of femur usually requires surgery to repair. Most of the adult femur fractures are trated by i/m rod that goes in side the bone to stabilize it while it heals. If for some reason i/m rod is not an option then external fixator is applied with a metal bar outside to keep bone in position so it can heal. Femur will usually take 3-6 month to heal , but it gets stronger every month. ...Read more

How long before i can walk on a fractured femur i have full mobility of the leg with no pain its been four weeks since a rod was put in?

Fracture healing: It depends! Was your fracture a simple or complex type and how was it fixed? Simple fractures fixed with a rod construct can bear weight immediately and it helps them to heal. We encourage weight bearing in these cases. Complex fractures fixed with plates and screws may need much longer before walking. There is also the question of whether you have osteoporosis or feel pain when walking. ...Read more

8mm of gap in femur, grafting surgery done from anterior spine on 26.6.14, 8 month old fracture. HOW MUCH TIME WILL IT TAKE TO HEAL? estimation please?

Varies: It varies tremendously. It sounds like you have a delayed or nonunion of your femur fracture. Bone grafting (as you had), dynamics ruin, and use of a bone stimulator are all attempts to get this to heal. Make sure you are not using nicotine or NSAIDs, both of which delay healing. Best case scenario- heals in 8-12 weeks, worst case- still does not heal and needs more surgery. ...Read more

An MRI revealed a fracture on the condyle of my femur. Will it heal on it's own? What can I do to speed recovery? (knee swelling, lost quad strength)

An MRI revealed a fracture on the condyle of my femur. Will it heal on it's own? What can I do to speed recovery? (knee swelling, lost quad strength)

Questionable: So...I am guessing that since the "fracture" was found on an MRI that this wasnt a bad injury. It is possible that you had some bone edema in the condyle (which can be interpreted as a fracture). If this is the case then, treat with a good NSAID (motrin/naprosyn), rest, possibly therapy. If you truly have a fracture this may need surgery or at the least a cast. ...Read more
