How long should someone take buspar (buspirone)? Do you need to get weaned off of it? Does abrupt discontinuation cause problems?

Talk to your doctor!: Talk to your doctor! The basic answer is that you should take Buspar (buspirone) as long as directed by your doctor. Do not stop it on your own. You will need to get instructions on how to stop taking it. Originally Buspar (buspirone) was not thought to cause problems when it was taken for a short time. Sometimes it is used for long periods of time, in those cases many physicians will wean off slowly. Ask your physician. ...Read more

Buspar (buspirone) may help: Most antidepressants improve anxiety - a few may be more energizing and make it worse - esp. Bupropion (wellbutrin, budeprion). Buspirone is an effective drug but takes a long time to work. Psychotherapy is also effective and is markedly underused. Anxiety is not a diagnosis - there are many anxiety disorders and they have different treatments - ptsd, generalized anxiety, phobia, panic etc. ...Read more

I took 1 pill of Buspirone 5 mg and got a bad side effects. How long does it take to get out of my system? Also can I take Sudafed while I have Buspar in my system?

I would allow: 24 hours to have effects of Buspirone completely out (it's probably sooner but I would allow outer limit) If you are taking Buspar for ANXIETY I would NOT take Sudafed since Sudafed side effect=anxiety!!

Hope this is helpful

Can I take my second 10mg buspar (buspirone) after only 5 hours? Otherwise I won't get it in before bed

Buspar (buspirone): I wouldn't expect a problem with this one time taking of the second dose after 5 hours, but if you've had any prior side effects or difficulty taking a stronger dose, I would not take an additional dose but wait for tomorrow and resume your normal dosage schedule. Your pharmacist can also help you with questions on your medications if your physician isn't available. ...Read more
