How long should it take after hitting my quad hard for the swelling to go down?

It depends: This can take several weeks and vary widely based on the severity of the injury. If a hematoma develops, it can even take months. Sometimes drainage is necessary to relieve a walled-off collection of fluid in the thigh muscle. See your doctor to evaluate further. ...Read more

How long could it take swelling in leg to go down after DVT diagnosis and warfarin started?

How long could it take swelling in leg to go down after DVT diagnosis and warfarin started?

Several months: After starting warfarin the blood clot can no longer grow. The body will start to break down the clot within days. It takes months to have the clot reabsorbed or for the process to make an opening through the clot so blood can get through again. Swelling will be visibly less in a few weeks but it could be 6 months before the leg is back to normal. Occasionally, the swelling persists indefinitely. ...Read more

I hit my quad hard 2 weeks ago and mris negative but I can't get it to stop swelling, any suggestions?

Ace wrap & Ice: Try an ace wrap with ice therapy. Higher grade quadriceps injuries often require immobilization in flexion to tamponade the intrinisc ability of the injured and bleeding muscle tofill the larger potential space made avaialble with the leg extended in the straight position. I was hit very hard by a line drive softball on the inside or my leg right above ankle.Since then there has been lots swelling and a hard knot there.

Softball Turned Hard: yeah, that's an area of thin skin and the bone is near the surface. you probably have a bone bruise and maybe even a "subperiostial hematoma" which just means it hurts and will take a while to go away. the effect of gravity will also work against you so elevating it a few times a day will help. topical ice may help, plus tylenol (acetaminophen) or motrin or both. if getting worse in any way, get it checked out ...Read more

Now I've started taking Diltiazem Tildiem again, how long will it take for the ankle/leg swelling to go? Anything I can do to stop it/help it?

Again?: You say "again". Did you take it before. Why was it stopped? Did it help the swelling before (the tildiem (HCTZ) is a mild diuretic.) Keep your legs elevated as much as possible and avoid salt as best you can to accelerate recovery. If it doesn't work, you may need a stronger med. ...Read more

Leg is significantly swelling and some purple on foot after ACL surgery. How long until the swelling goes down?

Some is expected...: How long has it been since your procedure? Pain and stiffness are expected to a certain degree in the recovery phases of acl reconstruction. However, if this pain seems to be indicative of infection or DVT (due to time frame of surgery or any other symptoms) then contact your surgeon asap. ...Read more

After a majority removal of full leg blood clot with rapid lysis treatment how long will it take for swelling to go away or see major improvement?

After a majority removal of full leg blood clot with rapid lysis treatment how long will it take for swelling to go away or see major improvement?

Depends on clot type: It depends on whether the blood clot was in an artery or vein; since you describe swelling, seems likely it was a vein. Unfortunately, many times the vein can be damaged to the point that the valves in the vein do not function normally, and do not keep blood from falling to the feet. Make sure to see a good vein specialist during recovery, and follow their instructions. Good luck! ...Read more

If your dead leg swells up, should I expect it to bruise when the swelling comes down? And how long does it last?

If your dead leg swells up, should I expect it to bruise when the swelling comes down? And how long does it last?

Dead leg?: If just one leg swells up, especially if you've been immobile for a while like a long airplane/bus/car ride, we worry about a blood clot (deep venous thrombosis) which can migrate to lungs (pulmonary embolism) and kill you (as it appears to have happened to actor dennis farina earlier this week http://www.Usatoday.Com/story/life/tv/2013/07/22/dennis-farina-dies-at-69/2575117/).
