Usually not long: Impetigo is a superficial skin infection. If only a small area is involved, topical antibiotic cream or ointment usually works. Larger areas may need an oral antibiotic, often for 7 to 10 days. Impetigo can be contagious, so it is wise to keep the area covered if possible and wash hands well after touching the lesions. Rashes: Impetigo is a common skin infection in infants and children. There is no standard incubation period. It most commonly occurs in an area of skin irritation such as an injury, scratch, eczema, or around the nares. Using an antibiotic ointment/cream early on irritated areas may prevent it. Baby has herpangina or possible impetigo what can I do and Is it a life long virus?

Baby has herpangina or possible impetigo what can I do and Is it a life long virus?

Confusing statement: Herpangina is in the mouth, impetigo is on the skin. It is one or the other by location. Herpangina is caused by a transient virus which disappears after the infection is over. Impetigo is caused by bacteria that can be killed off, but could come back with a new exposure. Read more

Impetigo? If and infant 4 months of age gets hot quickly and is sweating can impetigo come on faster. He was swaddled had a bib on and long sleeves.

Unlikely: Sweating is a natural body function and has no direct effect on whether an infant would acquire such an infection. A baby of this age should not be swaddled to begin with, for sleep or otherwise. Babies can strangle themselves in such a set up. Read more

See below: Could be a combination of the following: 1.Flu vaccine side effects and antibiotic use-gi upset/stomach ache. 2. A viral illness with cold and stomach symptoms. 3. Doubt due to impetigo unless lesions are spreading/worsening. Re check with your doc if symptomatic care is not improving your status. Read more
