Not costal: Typical costo chondritic pain does not come and go as you describe. Another cause such as musculoskeletal pain or simply chest wall or pleuritic pain would be more likely. ...Read more

Give it a couple day: Lay off the offending exercise, take a day of rest between workouts. Sounds like U just jumped in & gave it all U had. Not the way 2 start. Ease into a program than fits Ur goals & abilities. If serious about an exercise program join a health club & get program from an AT-C, 1 on 1, then join a semi private group, & B consistent, meet new friends & because U R paying 4 it, ,U R motivated 2 con't. ...Read more

Costochondritis....: Costochondritis is due to inflammation of the cartilage of the rib cage. It can appear suddenly. If pressing on the affected area of the chest wall reproduces the pain, costochondritis is probable. Treatment includes antiinflammatory meds like ibuprofen and applying heat or cold to the area, whichever decreases discomfort. The pain can last a few days. Costochondritis: This is an inflammation of a joint between the breast bone and a rib causing pain and tenderness. If the nerve running between 2 ribs is also pinched, sharp shooting pains could radiate around to the side and back of the rib cage. Widw variation: It can be days to months, unfortunately. Conservative care eventually and usually gets rid of the problem.. If one could only hold ones breathe indefinitely it wouldn't hurt. As that is not possible, then patience is the only thing we can hope for. ...Read more

It can be chronic...: Hi! Sorry you're not feeling well! Costochondritis can actually last for over a year. Stretching and NSAIDs like ibuprofen can be very beneficial (I suspect you're probably already trying these); sometimes, however, an injection of local anesthetic is necessary for cases that last many months. It sounds like you've had a good workup so far (echo, etc.). Did they also rule-out blood clot? ...Read more

Coughing: If you had some violent coughing during the procedure (I am guessing you were sedated and would't necessarily remember. Endoscopy can also cause retching. Coughing or retching violently could strain the cartilage in the chest wall, resulting in costochondritis. the treatment is aspirin or motrin.
