Eustacian tubes: The tube that runs from your middle ear to the back of the throat, if obstructed by swelling due to inflammation will produce ear pain. You may want to try a decongestant or a saline irrigation of the nares with a neti-pot. Try these and if still in pain go back and see your doctor. ...Read more

I have right ear congestion (fullness)with tunnitus for 12 days that started as a short lasting ear ache, at the end of a 3 week cold.?

Eustachian tube: ET dysfunction from a cold can create ear congestion or a middle ear fluid problem that can cause temporary hearing loss and/or tinnitus. It usually will respond to medications that decongest such as topical nasal decongestants like Afrin or Neosynephrine; oral decongestants like Sudafed; and topical nasal steroids like Flonase, Nasacort, and Rhinocort, all of which are OTC. See MD if persists. ...Read more

It would be best: To have a doctor look in the ear. Covering up pain, and potentially introducing liquid into a eardrum that is at risk of rupture may worsen things. If it's possible to have someone look in the ear to look for foreign bodies, insects, perforation of the eardrum or fluid behind the eardrum with the tool doctors use (an otoscope) is the best way to go. Check for fever, and note any other symptoms. ...Read more

My daughter is 5 years old and complained of ear ache last night. It is the weekend and I cannot get an appointment. She has a cough for around 2 weeks now and still has mucus. Please advise

For: For the future if your daughter is complaining of moderate to severe pain, she is uncomfortable, and possibly has a fever then you can take her to an urgent care since most doctor's offices are closed on weekends. If she does have an ear infection, this can be very painful and antibiotics should be started as soon as possible. Also childrens tylenol (acetaminophen) or advil can be given for pain.
I hope she has seen her doctor and is better by now. ...Read more
