How Long Should A Sore Throat Last
Less than a week: Viral sorethoats usually last only 3-5 days at most. Strep throat can last longer without treatment. Should get checked for strep if fever >3 days, body aches, white spots on tonsils, tender glands in neck. Mononucleosis and sorethroat from allergies or acid reflux can last much longer. Should probably get any sorethroat that lasts longer than 10 days checked out. ...Read more

Depends: If the sore throat is indeed from post-nasal drips, it will likely bothers you as long as there is post-nasal drips. Having said that, this association is far less common than believed by most people. If problem persists >1 week even after you have taken medication (nasal steroid?) for nasal allergies, see your doctor. ...Read more
Can sore throat due to larynogopharyngeal reflux last for long time like over 18 months? Can it eventually turn into something serious?
LPR: Greetings, LPR takes a long time to develop. Most often it goes unnoticed for an extended period of time until the delicate membranes become so irritated that you feel pain. Likewise, it takes time for recovery once the reflux is addressed. A complication of untreated LPR could be laryngeal cancer. This would occur more likely in a smoker with a strong family history of cancer. Get checked - ENT. ...Read more
If progressive...: Exposure of the vocal cords to stomach acid& pepsin will result in inflammation of the vocal cords (as is also often seen with acid regurgitation). Acute laryngitis may result, but watch out for chronic hoarseness, throat clearing, airway spasms, bronchitis, an asthma-type presentation, even a higher risk of throat cancer. Initiate acid blockers to start healing & treat GERD manifestations. ...Read more

Flu shot Friday, yesterday very achy, no appetite, sore throat, feeling the same way today. Can this be from the shot? If so how long can it last?
Unlikely: Influenza vaccine causes only two types of side effects: pain or discomfort at the injection site, usually mild and generally gone within 2-3 days; and rare allergic reactions. It rarely or never causes flu-like symptoms like yours. Probably you were just unlucky, catching a garden variety viral illness (or conceivably influenza itself) in the past few days. Contact your doctor if it continues. ...Read more

PAINFUL sore throat gets worse each day lasted for 5 days accompanied by cough, fever, congestion. What to do about this and how long will it last?
A cold?: Although the symptoms are compatible with a viral infection, the worsening sore throat is of concern. If it is just a common cold, the nasal symptoms and fever will likely subside by the 10th day but the cough may linger for a few more weeks. On the other hand, you will need to rule out a strep throat (although it is not expected to cause a cough) & thus a doctor's visit is recommended ...Read more
I recovered from mono a few weeks ago, but now I'm back to having a sore throat and huge lymph nodes. Is this a relapse? Will it last as long as before
Watchful waiting: Swollen lymph nodes are common after a throat infection and commonly found in mono. If you have no fever and the sore throat is manageable with tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen then wait for it to resolve. If symptoms persist or worsen then seek medical attention as you may have gotten strep. ...Read more

I have a sore throat after drinking straight up shots of whiskey and rum, is this normal? And how long will it last approximately?
Had a sore throat for over a week. Doctor said it was just a virus but the sore throat won't go away. Is it normal to last this long?
Have had a sore throat for three days, not too bad, but my cough drops say I should see a doctor if it lasts longer than two days. Is that true?
It's true.: If it says so on the label it must be true! As a doctor I can't say that makes much sense - most sore throats are viral and do last more than three days. If it is progressively worsening or is associated with serious side effects see your doc. Otherwise take the lozenges ...Read more
