Possible keloid: This could be vigorous scar tissue, or keloid. It could take up to 6 months to a year to entirely heal. Keep sun exposure to a minimum. Avoid the sun: Until the redness is gone. Scars mature for 6-12 months or more. The redness may maximize at about 6 weeks post-injury when the blood flow is maximal. The most important thing you can do is to avoid sunburn or suntan until the scar is mature. Use sunscreen with an spf of 15 or more, a hat, and reapply the sunscreen often.
