How long does gastritis take to heal? Had it for 7 weeks now, been taking probiotics, zantac, (ranitidine) buscopan and eating fresh food and its getting worse

Time for a change...: Zantac (ranitidine) in doses less than 100mg (otc dosing is 75mg) effectively inhibits basal & nighttime acid output by the stomach. However, food-stimulated acid production & tobacco/ nsaid/ alcohol injury may need bigger "guns." prescription-strength doses of zantac (ranitidine) are 150-300mg twice daily. Stop tobacco, nsaids, & drinking alcohol, & ask your doctor if time to switch medication or to get further testing. ...Read more

How long does it take for acute gastritis to heal... my doctor prescribed zantac (ranitidine)... I take it twice a day.

More info: It depends on what caused the gastritis. did your doctor check for h pylori infection, or do endoscopy? Usually over-the-counter Nexium (esomeprazole) would be stronger than Zantac. When properly diagnosed and treated, gastritis usually resolves within a month or so. ...Read more

How long does steroid induced gastritis take to go away completed? Told I had it days ago. Put On Prilosec and Zantac. How do they help my gastritis?

Stomach acid: Gastritis is an inflammation of the lining of the stomach, which damages the acid barrier. Prilosec and Zantac are both medications that block stomach acid production, which gives your stomach a chance to heal. Many factors can affect how long it will take to heal. It's important to stay on acid-blocking medications until healed. ...Read more

What can cause vertigo in middle of night. Started at 2am and finally subsided around 7am. I was diagnosed w gastritis about a month ago, take Zantac (ranitidine)?

Inner ear: True vertigo is caused by an inner ear problem and usually starts quickly and ends pretty quickly the fact that this lasted several hours is a little bit more concerning and I would see your doctor. I do not think it has anything to do with your reflux ...Read more

I have antral gastritis from EGD no h pylori. I think it started from antibiotics I took with out food, im on zantac 300 mg 2 a day. How long 2 heal?

14 days: I cannot see you age or history based on your question alone. Zantac is inferior, in my view, to proton pump inhibitors in treating the cause and symptoms of gastritis. I assume the diagnosis was made by gastroscopy. Uncomplicated gastritis usually settles, in my experience, within 2 weeks of taking adequate PPI dose daily. Again I assume no H. Pylori etc. Perhaps change treatment? ...Read more

I have had gastritis for the last 2.5 months. I have been diagnosed with slight IM. I am taking 300 - 600 mg of Zantac (ranitidine) daily. What could be going on?

Gastritis x 2.5 m: (Not sure what IM is) Were you checked for h pylori? A bacteria that is associated with gastritis. If positive will need antibiotics and a PPI like prevecid as well. Sometimes in severe gastritis-check gastrin level/ZE - without H pylori -individuals need a PPI as well as an H2 blocker (zantac). Some may even add sucralfate. Avoid alcohol energy drinks, caffeine, smoking, spicy, Ddiscuss w/ d ...Read more

Which is better for gastritis; 150 mg of Zantac or Nexium (esomeprazole) of 40 mg?

Nexium (esomeprazole): Proton pump inhibitors (ie Nexium (esomeprazole) among others) are potent medications that nicely reduce stomach acid. H2 blocker (ie zantac) are also acid reducers but much less effective. Most patients find better relief with Nexium (esomeprazole) compared to zantac. ...Read more

I just stopped Prilosec 20MG after 2 months for Gastritis. I am on Zantac (ranitidine) 300mg now but am experiencing rebound acid burning and reflux. Suggestions?

See your doctor to: Discuss more about your diet and hydration issues too. It's important to see what's causing the rebound gastritis. Sometimes acidic foods, Tums, (calcium carbonate) calcium based foods can cause this to happen, as well as fried foods, processed foods and underlying stress and worry. There's definitely a mind- body connection with gut issues, as the microbiome controls our neurotransmitter production, absorption. ...Read more

Gastritis is common: Gastritis is common, but certain serious underlying problems such as malignancy need to be ruled out if it does not respond to therapy. You are 31 and so this is very low likelihood. GI doc may opt to treat and see how you respond before intervening (depending on your exam and complete history).Avoid nsaids until cleared by your physicians. Http://emedicine. Medscape. Diagnosed with gastritis 2 weeks ago - using Zantac (ranitidine). Day before and since having orange stool and constipation - please help - age 35/female?

No worries: If you are eating ok, don't worry. Drink lot of water. Bleeding in the stomach causes diarrhea not constipation. Not sure why stool is orange unless ur bathroom light is yellow. With gastritis u get black or red stools if it is severe. Eat light frequent meals. Avoid tobacco alcohol caffeine and meds like ibuprofen, Advil etc. Skip a meal if you want. Over eatin is also not good for few days. ...Read more

Uper stomch pain few mnths. Better w zantac (ranitidine).dr say gastritis. Now 10 weeks pregnant &pain is worse. Dr say hormonal change. Normal or further evaluation?

Gastroenterologist: This is not normal and I recommend that you consult a gastroenterologist for diagnosis and treatment. Gastritis is treated by a bland diet, AVoidance of alcohol, caffeine and nicotine. If zantac, mylanta are no longer effective the next step is the taking of medications like prilosec or nexium, (esomeprazole) but your obstetrician would have to sanction its use. To be sure of your gi problem, consult a specialis ...Read more

My stomach is bloated, feels inflamed, like a bruise almost and im so thirsty! . Is this gastritis? GI dr just gave Zantac (ranitidine) said come back in 2 months

Thirst concerning: reflux disease can present him with many symptoms. But excessive thirst is not one of them. That suggest possible electrolyte imbalance and one would also have to consider the possibility of diabetes. Recommend reevaluation with your doctor. Make sure you tell them about the excessive thirst. That is not a symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease for which the Zantac (ranitidine) would be helpful. ...Read more

Gastritis: Not that there is anything wrong with Zantac...but if your having significant symptoms a Proton Pump Inhibitor is best. It needs to be taken on an EMPTY stomach (20 minutes before eating). It is OTC...several brands like Prilosec, Prevacid and Nexium (esomeprazole). Just ask your doctor, If the symptoms are stubborn. Or re-occur...see a GI doc for an endoscopy. ...Read more
