How Long Is A Tetanus Shot Good For
5-10 yrs: The tetanus shot we are use to is generally considered effective for older kids & adults for no less that 5 years in most situations and 10 for some. Infants with immature immune systems start a 6-8wks & are boosted every 2mo for 3 doses then at 12-15 mo for primary protection. Those whose activities (play or work) involve repeated incidental wounds may benefit from a booster after 5 yrs. ...Read more
I have m tetanus shot in june 2006 I want to know how long it is good for I mean how many years its work?
Not long.: Tetanus vaccines prevent "lockjaw", a disease of horrible muscle spasms that is generally fatal. If you have already been properly vaccinated within the last 10 years, then you are probably protected unless the puncture wound is profoundly contaminated--prompting a need for a booster vaccine in 5 years. The symptoms of tetanus can occur as quickly as 3 days, although the average is 8 days. ...Read more
Most of the time Tetanus shot given as DT or Tdap as combination shot with Diptheria and Pertussis only causes pain or discomfort at the time of injection. But some times you can get a reaction to the shot with little swelling at the site of injection and hurt may last 2to3 days
In children it is always given as DPT and also given with 2or3 other shots and hurt may be due to multiple shots 2to3days ...Read more
Depends: If you completed the primary series in childhood & have had one within five years you can probably just wash out a simple wound & not worry. If you have never had the series & have a dirty wound u could see the tetanus begin to set up over a day or so, so a shot & anti-toxin might be needed within hours. If u fall in the middle, get it done within 48hrs, but do a good job of cleaning the wound 1st. ...Read more

If you get an anti tetanus shot how long does it last? I mean how long before you have to take another one?
Tetanus Shot: A series of shots are given during childhood, but thereafter a booster shot is needed every 10 years, but as a practical matter, when I see people in the urgent care center with wounds or punctures, I recommend a booster if they cannot remember when they last had a booster. Better to be safe than sorry. ...Read more
Husband got puncture wounds from new barb wire. Does he need a tetanus shot? He hasn't had one in over 10 yrs. If so, how long can he wait?
Ten years: Ten years is the recommended time period for repeat immunization with tetanus toxoid. If, however, in the intervening time period you sustain a serious injury with the potential for introducing Clostridium tetani into your wounds, you should have repeat immunization if it has been five years since the last. Clinical tetanus remains a rare disease in the USA. ...Read more
Depends: The best answer is it depends on lifestyle. For the average person at 11, the coverage should be effective for 10 years if the child completed the primary series earlier. If the kid likes to play football, walk in muddy streams, camps, hunts, works in the dirt a lot, i'd only count on 5 years before getting another booster. ...Read more

Most of the time there is only slight pain or discomfort lasting few minute. But some patients get a local reaction with swelling and pain and may last 2to3 days

How long do you have before you step on a nail or something to get a tetanus shot, what if you can't get one for a few hours after the incident?
Varies: We encourage the injection within 24-48 hours. Good wound cleaning as soon as possible after the injury helps prevent a wound infection by any germ with or without tetanus spores that may be there. If you've had the primary series and your last booster was within 10 years, the shot is optional but a good decision because you can boost your protection for another decade. ...Read more
