It may take 4 to 6: Weeks at a particular level of zoloft (sertraline) to really start feeling the effects. However, obsessive compulsive disorder often requires higher doses of ssri's - so you may need upward titrations of your zoloft (sertraline) to get full benefit. ...Read more

If Zoloft (sertraline) wasn't effective enough for my OCD on 200mg , nor luvox 200 mg ; what can I try? Would another ssri work ?

If Zoloft (sertraline) wasn't effective enough for my OCD on 200mg , nor luvox 200 mg ; what can I try? Would another ssri work ?

I don't think so: All the ssris quite similar mechanisms of action so it is doubtful that another one would help. Unfortunately there are no truly effective meds for ocd although sometimes adding a low dose antipsychotic med might help. Specialized psychotherapy is the best way to go [ask if your psychotherapist thinks that he or she can help]. ...Read more

What are the risks of taking wellbutrin (bupropion) and Zoloft long term? Being used to treat ADHD and OCD respectively

What are the risks of taking wellbutrin (bupropion) and Zoloft long term? Being used to treat ADHD and OCD respectively

Not clear: There is conflicting data regarding use of antidepressants later in life and all cause mortality although there is the notion that the medications are relatively benign. There is always going to be a risk benefit analysis that is necessary in addition to the number needed to treat or a number needed to harm with any medication reflecting the capacity to do both good and bad things to patients. ...Read more

For how long can I continue using Zoloft (sertraline) to treat social panic and obsessive compulsive disorder?I'v been using Zoloft (sertraline) since 7 months

It depends: There are several questions. If your anxiety is well controlled, it may worsen if you discontue. The best treatment is to do psychotherapy, especially cognitive behavioral thearpy along with medications and then to slowly taper. Yoy may need to stay on zoloft (sertraline) longer, especially if there is a strong family history (genetic predisposition) . Zoloft (sertraline) is safe and effective- don't stop too early unless. ...Read more

I am taking Zoloft (sertraline) for OCD - will i regret this?

I am taking Zoloft (sertraline) for OCD - will i regret this?

Most likely not: Zoloft can be effective in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It is usually well tolerated. Let your doctor know if you have any significant side effects as this is often easily addressed. I don't recommend using only pharmacological treatment for OCD- as psychiatric conditions usually respond best when treated with psychotherapy, appropriate meds & life style modifications. ...Read more

Considering Zoloft (sertraline) for severe OCD. What would be a good STARTING dose, given the severity? 50mg seems like not enough. Start w/100mg?

Ask doctor: Work with your doctor. Usually Zolft is started at 50 mg, and the dose is increased, as the patient tolerates it. For OCD, you probably will get up to 200 mg in a month or so. Then you may need to stay at that dose for several weeks to see an effect. Cognitive behavioral therapy should be started right away, if you are concerned about the severity of symptoms. ...Read more

Is 100mg of Zoloft (sertraline) daily a very small amount for treating ocd? If after 1 month, no benefit can it still help ? And if yes after how much time ?

Don't know if you: Started at a lower dose of zoloft (sertraline) ; worked up to 100mg over a month, or if you have been on zoloft (sertraline) at 100mg for the last month. It can take up to 6 weeks to get the full response at that dosage. Some people may respond at 100mg and others will require a higher dose. Please ensure that you discuss this with your psychiatrist/ medical provider. I would not give up this early on. ...Read more

Zoloft (sertraline) helped with normal ocd, but caused intrusive unwanted thoughts after a month. What can I do now? Best anti-psy/ssri combo and no wt gain?!?

Intrusive thoughts: Intrusive thoughts are often part of ocd, so it's not clear whether zoloft (sertraline) "caused" them, or they were occurring from your ocd at the same time you were barely getting started with zoloft (sertraline). All antidepressants require at lest 6-8 weeks' trial, and people often need higher doses of ssri's for ocd than for depression. Hoping you'll confer with your psychiatrist about this and not give up! ...Read more
