How long does it take to adjust when switching from Lexapro (escitalopram) to zoloft?

How long does it take to adjust when switching from Lexapro (escitalopram) to zoloft?

Not long usually.: If the doses are equivalent then there should not be discontinuance symptoms. If the doses are not equivalent, then you could have recurrence of symptoms or you could have side effects from too high a dosage. 3-7% of the population cannot make the switch easily due to different metabolic rates of these two medications. You need to bring your symtoms to your doctors attention. ...Read more

When switching from Lexapro (escitalopram) to Zoloft is it common for their to be a down cycle, i.E depression, an how long should the transition take.?

When switching from Lexapro (escitalopram) to Zoloft is it common for their to be a down cycle, i.E depression, an how long should the transition take.?

Not necessarily: As long as you take a dose of zoloft which is equivalent to the Lexapro (escitalopram) dose, the switch should be okay. Maybe you can discuss this with your prescribing physician as you shouldn't make adjustments on your own. Finally, and unlike lexapro, (escitalopram) zoloft may be better absorbed (you get more), when taken with food-perhaps up to 50% better absorbed with food. Good luck. ...Read more

Therapy may help: Anxiety has biological roots, but are stimulated through psychological perceptions. Consider adding therapy to your medication and see either a talk therapist or a biofeedback therapist who can help you with evidence based biological interventions in addition to medicine. ...Read more

What is the best medicine for OCD. We have tried Zoloft, lexapro, wellbutrin, prozac. Side effects bad or did not work. Does Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) work for OCD?

SSRI's failed: So one SSRI may work when another does not. Keep trying. There is a new one called Brintillex which has much greater effectiveness in the reported studies.
Also a Selegeline patch may prove effective. ...Read more

Try counseling: While some medications will not work there are meds that will but along with counseling as well. Anxiety and depression are best treated with both behavior modification and medication. Give it some thought and discuss with your provider. ...Read more

GAD and medication: Please do what your doc asks but consider adding a behavioral approach to address the root of the situation such as clinical hypnosis, biofeedback, psychotherapy. See www. Asch. Net for licensed providers who do clinical hypnosis and www. Relaxationresponse. Org for some self-help. Peace and good health. ...Read more

What is safer for long term use and short term for all types of anxiety, benzodiazepines, paxil, zoloft, lexapro, buspar, (buspirone) or marijuana (used correctly)?

What is safer for long term use and short term for all types of anxiety, benzodiazepines, paxil, zoloft, lexapro, buspar, (buspirone) or marijuana (used correctly)?

Not benzo's.: Hello - long term use of benzodiazapines can lead to tolerance. Marijuana can cause marked psychiatric problems in some people including anxiety, psychosis & paranoia. Paxil can be used long -term but most of my patients have experienced more side effects with it then from Lexapro & zoloft. I see you are on Lexapro -it has an excellent side effect profile. Buspar (buspirone) is very safe for long-term use. ...Read more

Medicine changes: It will be fine to transition from one medication to another with an overlap time. You can overlap by removing the Zoloft over a two week time frame while adding the Lexapro (escitalopram) gradually or all at once. It takes several days for the Lexapro (escitalopram) to gear up in the body. Monitor him for tiredness, mood changes and sleep changes. These will go away after the total switch. ...Read more

I've been taking 20mg of lexapro but my doctor is changing me to 50mg of Zoloft. What is the easiest way to switch over?

Can just switch: Many psychiatrists and others will taper one of the SSRIs down while increasing the dose of the other, in order to avoid the discontinuation syndrome and make sure that the other drug isn't producing more adverse drug reactions. However, I have simply switched people over without any significant problems. It can be done either way. Listen to your doctor and/or pharmacist for advice on this. ...Read more

I want to switch back to Lexapro (escitalopram) from zoloft. Is that ok?

I want to switch back to Lexapro (escitalopram) from zoloft. Is that ok?

Generally yes: Obviously you should talk to your prescribing doc, don't switch behind their back. They need to know what you're taking, & may have other options to suggest. But yes, it's usually safe & easy to switch between Lexapro (escitalopram) & zoloft. Note that the dosages (mg) are different. Also, zoloft is available as generic while Lexapro (escitalopram) isn't, so Lexapro (escitalopram) costs more & insurance may not cover it. ...Read more

Will it be hard switching from 100mg of Zoloft for 6 wks to lexapro (escitalopram)???

Zoloft to Lexapro (escitalopram): Making the change from Zoloft to Lexapro (escitalopram) should not be too difficult as long as it's done under a doctor's supervision. You will essentially reduce the daily dose of Zoloft while you increase the daily dose of Lexapro (escitalopram) as your doctor instructs you. You will continue this titration until you are totally off the Zoloft and only on your final daily dose of Lexapro (escitalopram). The process might take 2-3 weeks. ...Read more

What are the side effects of switching from Lexapro (escitalopram) to zoloft?

None: There should be no side effects caused by the switch per se. Since each person has different sensitivities, you may experience a side effect on zoloft you did not experience on lexapro, (escitalopram) where someone else experiences side effects on Lexapro (escitalopram) but not on zoloft. Usually side effects to these drugs are mild and transitory. Talk to your doctor about any discomfort you experience. ...Read more

Tried lexapro (escitalopram) made me very sick. Have Zoloft now 25 mg. Taking half at first to avoid side effects this week will take 25 next week. Will this help?

And your Dr says?: Am I missing something? Did these drugs become OTC? Did you have a doctor evaluate your need for a Rx and provide you with directions? It is admirable that you feel such agency and that would really be a plus in CBT therapy (which WOULD help) but these drugs are potentially dangerous if mis-used, certainly they may be ineffective. Take as directed only. Talk w/ Dr about this. Sorry to be hardline ...Read more
