How long and how do you treat chlamydia re-infection? Have been onto the following medication:urizone 3g stat, 5 times, doxycycline 100mg twice a day

Doxycycline OK: Fosfomycin (Urizone) is not normally used to treat chlamydia and probably not effective. However, doxycycline is excellent: the normal dose is 100 mg twice daily for 7 days. If taken relably, it is 100% reliable. ...Read more

I've been taking doxycycline to treat chlamydia and I've vomited several times after 30-45 minutes of taking it, am I still being treated?

Probably yes...: Apparently, you got gi-upset as its side effect; but a duration of 3-45 minutes should be enough for absorption for most of oral drugs. Did you see the remnant of pills in the vomitus? Meanwhile, the pace of possible clinical resolution of chlamydia-related symptoms may help tell the story. But for worse, it's always possible to try other drugs with less side effects as needed. Work with doctor... ...Read more

Typically...: It takes 3-5 days. It is important though to keep taking the medication until it all gone, even after you have started to feel better. How long after finishing 2 week, twice a day doxycycline does it take for chlamydia to be gone? Also when should I get checked again?

How long after finishing 2 week, twice a day doxycycline does it take for chlamydia to be gone? Also when should I get checked again?

Treating chlamydia: You were given more doxycycline than normal; chlamydia is usually treated for just 7 days. Your infection is gone by now. Doxycycline never fails to cure chlamydia; you don't need retesting at this time. However, retesting is recommended for everyone with chlamydia 3-4 months later, to check for reinfection -- which is quite common. Of course your sex partner (s) must be treated too. ...Read more

Two days after finishing a seven day doxycycline course on chlamydia, I took another test with positive result, how long it takes to clear completely?

Chlamydia retesting: You were tested too soon. Doxycycline never fails to cure chlamydia, if taken as directed. But after chlamydia is killed by the antibiotic, its DNA takes a while to clear, and the test detects DNA. Chlamydia retesting is not recommended until at least 3 weeks after treatment. Even then, it's usually unnecessary. The usual time for chlamydia retesting is 3-6 months, in case of reinfection. ...Read more

Will 100 mg of doxycycline twice a day for seven days treat chlamydia and ghonorrhea?

Will 100 mg of doxycycline twice a day for seven days treat chlamydia and ghonorrhea?

Not the gonorrhea: Doxycycline 100mg twice a day for 7 days is a treatment for chlamydia. Treating gonorrhea requires oral Cefixime or a shot of ceftriaxone. If a person is getting treated for one std, he or she should be sure to get tested for other std's! of course, std's are from sharing, so partners need testing and treatment also. ...Read more

I'm currently on Doxycycline 100mg to treat Chlamydia. Dosage says one tablet a day for 10 days. Is this correct because the pharmacy gave me 30 pills?

Not correct: Once daily treatment isn't enough. The standard doxycycline treatment is 100 mg twice daily for 7 days. Did she maybe give you extra drug to give to your partner? (Ideally partners should be examined, tested and treated by a doctor. But it is common to use "expedited partner treatment" like this if partner is unlikely to see a doctor or clinic.) Check back with your doctor and/or the pharmacy. ...Read more

I was prescribed doxycycline hyclate for five days and doxycycline mono hyclate for 2 days for insurance reasons. Will this treat chlamydia?

Not necessarily: I usually prescribe doxycycline (do not take of you are pregnant) 100mg orally twice a day for 21days. That usually cures the infection. It would be wise to talk to your physician and tell him/her that you received a second opinion and what does he/she say. ...Read more

I am being treated fro chlamydia with 10 days of doxycycline twice per day. How soon after treatment is over, should I retest? How soon before sex?

Recommended is 3 mo: The current cdc guidelines are for retesting in 3 months. The reason the recheck is not right away is that the concern isn't resistant strains. There is virtually no resistance to the antibiotics commonly used to treat chlamydia. The problem is that reinfection rate is so high. It's safe to have sex again if you are certain that your partner has also been treated. ...Read more

Been using doxycycline for years for acne. Could this treat chlamydia or would I be resistant to it?

Been using doxycycline for years for acne. Could this treat chlamydia or would I be resistant to it?

Probably not: Long term exposure to any antibiotic allows bacteria to develop resistance in their cell walls, making the antibiotic ineffective. The CDC (Center for Disease Control) has long ago recommended to physicians to judiciously use antibiotics wisely and only if truly indicated. We are running out of effective antibiotics for medical use because of this problem which bodes poorly for our futures. ...Read more

After finishing a seven day treatment on Doxycycline for Chlamydia, how long does someone have to wait to have unprotected sex again?

You should...: Be able to after completing treatment....but if you should is a different topic...you've just been treated for an STD (sexually transmitted disease). You were lucky it was something easily treatable. The best advice here is to have protected sex until your in a monogamous relationship (and maybe even then too). So I've been taking doxycycline hyclate 100mg for chlamydia for a week Thursday to Thursday twice a day. Question is how long to wait to have sex?

The most sure way: Is to repeat the urine PCR test that will confirm you are cleared. Then you won't have to worry abaout incomplete treatment but in general once you are finished with the antibiotics course you are most likely cured. However, there can be treatment failures so if you want to know for sure, get a repeat test to document clearance. ...Read more

How long does it take for doxycycline to stop chlamydia pain. Or is there anything additional I can prescribed to relieve urination pain?

How long does it take for doxycycline to stop chlamydia pain. Or is there anything additional I can prescribed to relieve urination pain?

2 weeks: The Tetracycline is used against Chlamydia, generally for 2 weeks (there is no set period). However as far as pain is concerned in the urethra one can prescribe Pyridium (phenazopyridine) 100 mg Po three times a day for five days. Please remember that when a patient contracts one sexually transmitted disease, there is great chance that he has others. Severe urethral pain with discharge may indicate gonorrhea. ...Read more

My boyfriend and I were both treated for Chlamydia. He finished a ten day treatment of doxycycline yesterday and I took a powder/drink form of azithro?

Both treatments OK: Doxycycline and azithromycin are equally effective and routinely recommended. Your bf was a bit overtreated; 7 days doxy is sufficient. Any other partners either of you has had in the past 2-3 months also should be treated. Both of you should be retested for chlamydia in about 3 months. Wait for about a week before having sex with your bf; or if you just can't wait, use condoms for a while. ...Read more

Treated for chlamydia, 2 pills azithromycine, 2 weeks of doxycycline, lower right abdomen still in pain after treatment, do I still have it? Only symptom I had w/ chlamydia, could the test have been wrong?

Treated for chlamydia, 2 pills azithromycine, 2 weeks of doxycycline, lower right abdomen still in pain after treatment, do I still have it? Only symptom I had w/ chlamydia, could the test have been wrong?

Pain after tx: It's unlikely the test was worng - not impossible, but very unlikely. As to whether you still have it, chlamydia symptoms can range from none to severe pain/fever/illness. So the leftover pain may be peristent infection, or just inflamation in the area where the infection was. That inflammation takes time to clear up after the infection is treated. I would ask doc if need to be tested for cure. ...Read more

How long after taking the 10 day doxycycline antibiotic for chlamydia can you have sex (with a condom)?

How long after taking the 10 day doxycycline antibiotic for chlamydia can you have sex (with a condom)?

Get rechecked: Intercourse with a condom will certainly reduce the risk of retransmission of chlamydia, but your partner should have been tested and if positive, treated as well so that infection will not be passed on again. It is always helpful to get retested yourself as well to ensure that you have been treated adequately, again to break the transmission cycle. ...Read more
