1 to 2 weeks.: I would think that if the sucralfate is going to actually help, you should start noticing some improvement within 1 to 2 weeks. If you do not, then I would return to your doctor for the next step in the work up and/or the treatment of your symptoms. Good luck. ...Read more

Yes, safe: It is usually taken for 6-12 weeks but sometime longer depending on ulcer healing. It is a safe medication.

PPI: If you have gastritis, an H2 blocker or proton pump inhibitor (PPI) may help your symptoms. Ur may also need a urea breath test or stool test to rule out H. Pylori infection. If positive, ur will also need antibiotics. In the meantime, can add melanoma/maalox until H2/PPI start working. ...Read more

Different medication: Denoltab is a bismuth containing compound that is often used for gastric ulcers associated with H. pylori. It coats the stomach and helps protect the ulcer bed to allow it to heal. Sucralfate has a different mechanism of action and may be more effective for bile reflux symptoms it also binds bile salts. If true reflux of the esophagus and Meds don't work you may benefit from anti-reflux surgery. ...Read more

Depends on injury.: Sucralfate is absorbed very minimally and works by coating the lining of the stomach to protect any ulcers or inflammation from the acids in the stomach.
It should be taken 4 times a day at least 1 hour before meals to allow for coating of the stomach. Pain relief should occur after a few doses, but if persist after 3 -4 days, contact your doctor for advise regarding your symptoms. ...Read more
