How Long Does Zinc Supplement Stay In Your Body
If one were to supplement with zinc picolinate tablets; how long would one do that for and for how many weeks? Many thanks
A dietary supplement, also known as food supplement or nutritional supplement, is a preparation intended to supplement the diet and provide nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, fiber, fatty acids, or amino acids, that may be missing or may not be consumed in sufficient quantities in a person's diet. Some countries define dietary supplements as foods, while ...Read more

Keeping in mind the 1. actual Amount of zinc in a zinc supplement and the 2. absorption rate, can I say body gets much lower than the labelled dosage?
Can zinc supplement tablets be taken once a day regularly? Or is it dangerous to take it for a long periods of time? I am zinc deficient.
Yes, take daily: If you are zinc deficient. There is no danger associated with taking zinc supplements on a daily basis nor known long term consequences. The body needs zinc for normal growth and health. Zinc deficiency is associated with poor night vision and wound-healing, a decrease in sense of taste and smell, and reduced ability to fight infections. Additionally, eat foods rich in zinc. ...Read more
How LONG does one need to supplement with low dose 25-35mg zinc to recover from overtraining related zinc deficiency? What tests yo decide zinc level?
No easy answers or: Major clinical trials to address concern, more marketing. The primary reference, by current technology, is by blood concentration, though this does not address all issues. (At the same time, be careful to avoid marketing nonsense, lots of that around.) Study: http://www. Questdiagnostics. Com/testcenter/BUOrderInfo. Action? Tc=945&labCode=AMD & be aware "reference range" = central 95.8% of all values. ...Read more
Probably not: Stop taking the zinc supplements unless you were advised to do this by an evidence-based holist -- these can be bad for you and make you copper deficient -- and look for a diferent cause of your hair loss (telogen effluvium? hypothyroidism? fungus? alopecia areata? if you're very hairy-chested, early male pattern baldness?). Anemia at your age is VERY worrisome and requires a full workup. ...Read more
Check your zink level: First! Zinc is recommended for many males for prostate health, and often is found in a multivitamin tablet. It has to be taken in the right proportion with copper. You don't want to overdo and take too much zinc. So if you been taking it daily by itself only, have your doctor check your blood level first, then discuss your concerns. That is the best approach! ...Read more
May be too much:
RDA for female is 8mg/day
RDA= Recommended Daily Allowance.
Many factors can play part in absorption & retention of Zinc. Diet high in phytate & fiber may increase zinc requirements. Genetic & environmental factors play a part also. No "gold standard" yet exists for the assessment of zinc status. Zinc serves as a co-factor in more than 70
metallo-enzymes. ...Read more
Is it ok to take multi viatimins and zinc supplements at the same time, or is that just over-doing it?
Probably: If you eat a balanced diet, extra vitamins are not usually needed. If you have a poor diet, a multivitamin can help. Unless you have a proven deficiency, taking more is not helpful, and can be toxic. I give zinc to patients who have wound healing problems and a deficiency, but even in these cases 2 weeks is often enough time to get this treated. Consult a nutritionist for specifics in your case. ...Read more
Is it okay to take multi viatimins and zinc supplements at the same time, or is that just over-doing it?
It's OK as long as: Zinc has many benefits but you can have too much of anything. It depends on the dosage and form but generally it is considered safe to take 40 mg/day. The concern with higher doses is copper deficiency; if you take 1 mg of copper for each 15 mg of zinc it is safe to take more and higher doses are needed for some conditions. See http://ods. Od.Nih. Gov/factsheets/zinc-healthprofessional/. ...Read more
I have extremely low zinc levels, confirmed by taste test. How many mg of zinc supplements should I take a day to get it back up?
Taste test. Hmmm...: ...and what makes a person think his taste test technique is useful in real life? If the test result says "zinc deficiency", how often is that false, meaning how often does a non-deficient person get a "zinc deficiency" result? On the other hand, if the test result says "normal", how often is that result false, meaning how often does a zinc-deficient person get a normal result? ...Read more
The wrong answer: I'm not aware of any reason to think they'll help either with the physical problems caused by alcohol, or the craving. It'll upset your stomach and can make you copper deficient. An alcoholic needs sobriety by whatever means, not one more non-evidence-based treatment or distraction. I've seen lives transformed by sobriety many years into the illness. ...Read more

Hello Sir, can daily Zinc supplement cause me to develop gastritis? Looking forward to your reply.
Gastritis Maybe: Zinc, particularly in high doses (over 60 mgs) can cause stomach irritation. Even low doses of Zinc can cause stomach irritation but is less likely to do so. Zinc should be taken with food when used to help prevent this side effect. If you think you have gastritis, it is important you discuss this with your physician as gastritis has many causes and should not just put down to having taken Zinc. ...Read more
