I am having trouble quitting oxycodone/suboxone. How long are these withdrawal symptoms supposed to last?

Quiting Opiates: Suboxone is used to help with addiction to opiates like oxycodone. Maybe you need to get yourself on a maintenance dose of suboxone which you can then slowly taper off over time. In my experience, patients often will need to stay on suboxone for about half the amount of time they abused opiates. So, if a person took oxycodone for 4-5 years, they may need the suboxone for a couple of years. ...Read more

Why does a long half-life mean a long withdrawal? Xanax (alprazolam) and oxycodone have short hls but w/d can last months. Why would suboxone. Be longer?

Why does a long half-life mean a long withdrawal? Xanax (alprazolam) and oxycodone have short hls but w/d can last months. Why would suboxone. Be longer?

Time Dependency: Narcotic withdrawal times and severity are complex phenomena and not easy to summarize. The time it takes the body to get rid of narcotics (half-lives) may have far more to do with length and severity of dependence, malnutrition, sleep deprivation and kidney and liver function than the pharmacokinetic profile of the drug. Please speak with your pain management specialist for specific advice. ...Read more

Why do some docs say a long half-life mean a long withdrawal? Xanax (alprazolam) and oxycodone have short h-ls and wd can last months. Chemically speaking, why?

Good question: With a short half life drug, the peak of severe and possible life threating withdrawal as could be the case with xanax (alprazolam) come on quicker and fade quicker. However a prolonged withdrawal state can persist, weeks and months after for both short and long half life drugs. Longer half life drugs tend to have less peak, though amount of drug used and length of use affect the withdrawal state as well. ...Read more

Is 12-15 hours long enough time after taking oxycodone to take Suboxone without getting early withdrawal?

Depends: If you're taking Suboxone to treat opiod drug addiction, you should wait until you experience some signs of withdrawal, then begin it. If you're taking it for chronic pain, 12-15 hours is certainly not long enough for sustained release oxycodone, and prob not long enough for immediate release oxycodone. For that I recommend about 20 hours. ...Read more

Days to weeks: The physical symptoms rarely last longer than a week, but the cravings may last much longer. Consider attending a meeting of narcotics anonymous. If you are at risk for relapse, you might consult an addiction specialist about using buprenorphine (suboxone). ...Read more

If already in withdrawal from Oxycodone, can I take the suboxone without gettin precipitated WD even if it's only been 15-17hrs since last dose of oxy?

Most likely: officially, you need to wait at least 24 hours. Practically, many people do it and even earlier. Legally, you need to do it in the presence of your doctor. Practically, if you are sweating, have muscle cramps, goosebumps, diarrhea – you can do it. Just start with a very small piece of the film to test if you are not precipitating further problems. good luck. Get treatment. ...Read more

Is 12-15 hours long enough time after taking oxycodone to take subutex without getting early withdrawal, its for chronic pain not addiction.

NO, its not: especially if you have been taking oxycodone regularly for pain (or any other opiate for that matter). This drug should in general not be used to treat pain, although it can be used to treat those with both addiction AND pain. However, taking it when you are dependent on another opiate can precipitate withdrawal, which can sometimes be quite severe. If prescribed, talk to MD. If not, don't take ...Read more
