Can cough, greenish yellow phlegm/mucus and head/ear congestion persist for awhile after a viral URI? Feel better except for these things. No fever.

Can cough, greenish yellow phlegm/mucus and head/ear congestion persist for awhile after a viral URI? Feel better except for these things. No fever.

Maybe: Without an exam, I can only give general information, but classically after an inflammatory process in the upper respiratory area, the body is more susceptible to secondary infection with whatever germs are there. Strep and mouth germs are the most common causes and these often require antibiotics.

Is wheezing serious with a common cold and runny nose?

Possible asthma: If you have a respiratory infection and you are wheezing it could be a sign of underlying asthma. This could become serious and even critical if left untreated. You should consult your physician if you are wheezing you require further diagnosis and treatment

I have a very deep cough with some wheezing fatigue and aches. Do I need antibiotics or is it the common cold/flu?

No antibiotics: Hello otter65249, if you have cough up to 7-10 days, it' usually viral and you don't need antibiotics. Taking Mucinex (guaifenesin) 600 mg 2 a day as well as emergen c 1 pack 3 a day should help you. If symptoms continue beyond week without improvement, at that stage you should consult physician.

Common cold or bronchitis? Symptoms: Tired, Lime color mucous, raspy cough, no tight chest, wheezing/gurgling before cough, headache, body ache. Thanx

Possible Bronchitis: It is difficult to say without examination. But it is more likely you are having Bronchitis as you are wheezing And it seems like a viral infection causing your Bronchitis. I advice you drink plenty fluids and consult your Doctor, get checked and treated appropriately. Do not smoke or be around some one who smokes It can also turn into Pneumonia sometimes

I get 'common cold' symptoms for a day after I swim in a pool the last 4-5 times. Sore throat, sinus, sneezing. Could it be a chlorine allergy?

I get 'common cold' symptoms for a day after I swim in a pool the last 4-5 times. Sore throat, sinus, sneezing. Could it be a chlorine allergy?

No but: Chlorine can irritate your nose and trigger asthma for those who have the condition. It is not an allergy however. I suspect that you may have a hay fever issue which is worsened by the chlorine exposure.

How long is someone contagious for when they have the common cold, flu, or bacterial / viral bronchitis?

How long is someone contagious for when they have the common cold, flu, or bacterial / viral bronchitis?

Contagious periods: The contagious period differs for each type of infection, even among different viruses! There is a range of values based on different infections ranging from common cold to influenza. These vary from 24 hours to up to 2 weeks! You should ask your physician what infection you have and for how long you will be contagious. Common sense dictates that respiratory viruses travel by cough or sneeze.

Common cold: To avoid getting an upper respiratory infection practice excellent hand washing. Wash hands frequently & thoroughly with warm water and soap. Do not touch mouth, eyes or hands unless hands are clean. Avoid contact with people who have upper respiratory infections. Cover coughs. Tips: Sore throat – gargle with warm salt water (1/2 tsp salt in 8 oz of water). Get strep test/culture if very sore. >

What are common cold symptoms?

Many: I break colds into flavors: there are chest colds, nose colds and throat colds, although all common colds can cause all symptoms. Stuffy nose and cough are the most common symptoms, but feeling tired, sore, sick, having sinus pressure or earaches all come with the territory. Many colds start with a sore throat before progressing to stuffy nose and/or cough, but some only involve sore throat.

How can I treat a sinus cold or mucus drip or any other cold symptoms with wheezing?

Cough asthma inhaler: Wheezing may indicate that you have asthma. An inhaler such as albuterol may be prescribed by your doctor. For nasal congestion, nasal rinses and clearing the nasal passages helps to reduce post nasal drip and cough. I hope this helps.

I have acute bronchitis, from one week I am getting severe wheezing only night times. I am not able to breath properly. I am using forocort inhaler.?

Wheezing w/bronchiti: May have associated reflux, therefore happening at night. Can try ranitidine and or prevecid before bed. Would also elevate head of bed with pillow under mattress (it will help you breathe anyway as compress lungs when lying down). May also be reactive airways due to bornchitis-elevating head of bed helps. F/u w/ doc
