Over 24 hours: Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) is the longest acting oral stimulant; at high enough doses, amphetamine can be detected the next day, although at fairly low concentrations. Still, like with other stimulants, it seems to be effective only on days taken. There is not evidence of which I'm aware that it accumulates over time--though it might at the highest doses. ...Read more

On urine drug testing it shows up as amphetamine; student athletes have to show an empty prescription bottle to the coach. ...Read more
How long does it take to get high doses of Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) completely of of your system?

Metabolism of drugs vary and some patients lose the effect much earlier in the day and some have some residual effect that causes sleep issues. They do not have to build up in your system to produce effect and if you skip a dose you will not have benefit. ...Read more

Taking 40 mg vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine). I can tell the meds wear off late afternoon but at night I can't fall asleep? Is the medicine not completely out of my system?
Talk to doctor: While most of Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) is eliminated from the body in about 8 hours (varies with the individual), a small amount takes longer to be metabolized and may cause difficulty falling asleep. Compare your sleep on a day you don't take Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) to be sure. Discuss what to do with prescribing doctor. Options may be to lower the dose, take earlier in the morning or try a shorter-acting stimulant. Good luck. ...Read more
Hello Dr. I have a question about Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine). Is there anything I can do to rid of the amphetamine in my system/urine faster? Drinks? Food? Exercise?
No: None of those things actually have any significant effect on how most drugs are excreted from the body. Large amounts of liquid may dilute urine enough to cause a chemical to fall below the "detection threshhold" of the test, but such dilute urine itself will be detected and is considered a "failed" urine. If it's prescribed, it should not be a problem. If not, getting caught least of worries. ...Read more

Caution: You already have significant drug interactions with the 3 meds listed. Adding Vyvanse plus Wellbutrin (bupropion) increases risk for seizures. Vyvanse plus Lexapro increases side effects of Vyvanse and risk for serotonin syndrome. Review these meds with prescribing doctor. You need close medical supervision to take these medications. I hope this helps. ...Read more

My son is almost 4 and weights 30 pounds and is on vyvanse, (lisdexamfetamine) how long before I should notice a change?
Usually fast acting: The stimulant class of medication acts quickly in the system. It is not as reliant on height or weight as the individual's ability to quickly metabolize the medicine. I usually tell families to look for changes after the first 72 hours of medication use. Even subtle changes may be relevant, both positive and negative changes (side-effects and poor reactions to medication. ...Read more
