How long does it take throat cancer to develop ? I've been having a clearing of the throat probl for about 7 years now . I was just concerned
Not that long: Development of cancer takes a long time but u r asking about progression. Head and neck cancers r usually fast growing tumors that untreated wouldn't allow 7yrs to pass. Without changes in voice, enlarging lymph nodes and other problems this is unlikely cancer. It could b a benign problem, so u should see your doctor and maybe an ent. Postnasal drip is a more common cause of your symptom. ...Read more
Cancer development: Cancer comes in many different "flavors" that can be variable in the specific time course for development. Most throat cancers require several genetic changes over many years or deca. Once the genetic changes occur, it still takes often years before the cancer reaches a size to be detected. So, behaviors or exposures in younger years (smoking, for example) make the difference in later cancer rate ...Read more

If oropharynx or hypopharyns Ca, dx is squamous Ca very sensitive to RT/Chemo. Occasionally tumors arise from minor salivary glands. Rt will destroy tumor but block throat temporarily from swelling. If localized, transhyoid pharyngotomy results in easy resection of Ca with temporary tube feed ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Long time: Hpv is nearly ubiquitous, and most people will clear it without intervention. However, some people will not clear the virus and in a small number of patients the virus can be causative for some cancers, including oropharyngeal cancer (largely tonsil and base of tongue). This process is thought to take a long time, on the order of years. ...Read more

How long before throat cancer progresses, I have throat clearing for 2 years, not any worse than when it started, and never during sleep, very scared?
Get checked out!: Have you been diagnosed with throat cancer or are you worried you may have it? If this is a worry and not actually diagnosed, go to your doctor! if you had throat cancer for 2 years i think you'd be pretty sick by now, but check it out so you can stop worrying. This could be something as benign as a non-allergic rhinitis causing a drip in the back of your throat. Throat cancer would progress. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
