Not sure of question: It sounds like your doctor found a "mass" in your neck above your collar bone and recommended an MRI. This confirmed the presence of lymph nodes in the same area, some of which were slightly large, at the upper ("top normal") limit of normal. These could be reactive... responding to some inflammation/infection nearby or neoplastic (tumor). Depending on other symptoms, observation or biopsy is next

Mri (Definition)

Mri or magnetic resonance imaging is one of the more recently developed imaging modalities available to physicians. It uses powerful magnets to generate images. There is no ionizing radiation which is a major advantage over many other modalities. Mri is the best imaging exam that we have for most soft tissue and joint related problems. There are radiologists ...Read more

Low minerals: You may be low in magnesium and potassium intake. Do a search for magnesium rich foods and try to get 400 mg/d. Search for potassium rich foods and try to get 3, 00 mg/d. Increase water intake to two quarts daily. Give this a week or two to improve your muscle fasciculations. Be sure that you are getting 7-8 hours of good sleep per night.

Is contrast absolutely necessary during soft tissue neck MRI for evaluation of mass? I had very unpleasant scary symptoms last time I had contrast.

Is contrast absolutely necessary during soft tissue neck MRI for evaluation of mass? I had very unpleasant scary symptoms last time I had contrast.

Tell the MRI folks!: I tend to defer to the radiologists to tell me the best technique or study needed to find what I'm looking for. But if contrast is needed, be sure to tell te MRI techs and doctor what you experienced before. If you had an allergic reaction, they will want to be prepared - and possibly medicate you in advance to keep you safe.

Could you tell me what are normal head and neck MRI effects?

Could you tell me what are normal head and neck MRI effects?

None: Mri generally has no side effects, assuming an appropriate safety screening. Some implanted devices and tattoos are not MRI safe. Some persons are sensitive to the IV contrast that is sometimes used, and persons with poor kidney function sometimes cannot get IV contrast. During the scan, especially at high magnet strength, some persons describe "funny feelings".

Prob. Benign: This may be an incidental Finding. However your Neurologist would be able to tell you conclusively. All the MRI findings have to be correlated with your Clinical Finding. If MRI was done at the same place, Comparison was made with previous MRI and new one does not have this findings;it is unusual. The Tonsillar Descent must be Congenital (from Birth)

Will throat or neck cancer show on a neck mri?

Will throat or neck cancer show on a neck mri?

Usually: Usually, if the MRI was to look at the neck, and not the cervical spine. Small throat cancers, or cancers without enlarged lymph nodes or masses can be harder to detect. It always helps the radiologist reading and study to have a great clinical history and know what diagnoses the referring clinician and patient are thinking about.

You lie on your back: You will be asked to fill out a questionnaire to determine that there is no metal inside your body. You will be asked to remove all jewelry, metal and empty your pockets. You will then enter the scanning room, lie flat on your back, and be moved into the scanner aperture. You will need to stay very still for the next 20 minutes. Then it's over!

What is the definition or description of: neck mri?

What is the definition or description of: neck mri?

Cervical region: A neck MRI will be done with the cervical spine being imaged. This will concentrate on the bones, nerves, discs and joints of the cervical spine. No, soft tissue can: Be seen on the same mri, generally speaking. Unless a specific soft tissue is being looked for, or to make it pronounced, one could get a contrasted study. The report usually states all the abnormal findings, including bony ; soft structures.

Just did a normal MRI on my neck & the radiologist advised me lymphnodes are ok - would the neck MRI show if something was wrong with them?

Just did a normal MRI on my neck & the radiologist advised me lymphnodes are ok - would the neck MRI show if something was wrong with them?

Yes: Mri is very good for evaluating the lymph nodes of the neck. When lymph nodes become abnormal, they usually get bigger and/or change shape. If you have a history of cancer, it is possible that MRI could miss very, very early metastatic disease in the lymph nodes, but in general, if your lymph nodes are normal size and shape on mri, there is nothing wrong with them.
