How sure is the dx?: Reactivated mononucleosis is unusual. Most cases of mono are caused by EBV but CMV also can cause. While exceptions exist, usually mononucleosis confers lifelong immunity. Serologies are often used to check, however remain positive after acquiring the infection even many years. The monospot (EBV) is usually only positive for 3-5months p. infx. Other things can cause mono-like syndrome. ...Read more

How long can neck nodes stay enlarged with no signs of sickness? Have had several swollen for 5 months with no decrease. Dr seems uninterested

How long can neck nodes stay enlarged with no signs of sickness? Have had several swollen for 5 months with no decrease. Dr seems uninterested

Ask for diagnosis: Palpable neck nodes that don't go away and large enough to be consider pathologic should be a concern. They can stay that way without disease for some time but certain diseases can do that, unfortunately like some opportunistic infections, mycobacteria but could be a manifestation of other inflammation including aids and malignancy. I can't correlate with the chest ct as history does not say. ...Read more

What does it mean with swollen nodes on neck and inner left collarbone for 5+ months? Dr did CT and reported back no lymphadenopathy. No infections

What does it mean with swollen nodes on neck and inner left collarbone for 5+ months? Dr did CT and reported back no lymphadenopathy. No infections

Sounds concerning: Are all the nodes on the same side? Are they growing? Do you have hoarseness? Ear pain? Difficulty swallowing? If so, you should have a laryngoscopy. Have you have weight loss, unexplained fevers, night sweats? It is very unusual that you can feel nodes that are not seen on ct. Maybe have a second doc look at the ct? ...Read more

Got a Swollen Lymph Node underarm how long does it take to go down ? Lymph node been swollen for 5 weeks

Got a Swollen Lymph Node underarm how long does it take to go down ? Lymph node been swollen for 5 weeks

Need to examine: The lymph nodes enlarge in response to some lesion in the area drained by the node. It would be prudent to see a doctor to ascertain the cause of the enlargement and treat the cause. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. ...Read more

Can lymph nodes stay swollen for 7 months after mono infection. Lymph nodes are bilateral in post. cervical area 1.3 cm or less. I touch them everyday?

Can lymph nodes stay swollen for 7 months after mono infection. Lymph nodes are bilateral in post. cervical area 1.3 cm or less. I touch them everyday?

Yes, not abnormal: Once inflamed and enlarged, sometimes lymph nodes never return to previous normal size. If you're otherwise well, it doesn't mean anything if you can still feel them. Anyway, repeated touching -- especially if you poke hard to find them, rub them, etc -- can cause further inflammation, keeping them large. I suggest you vow to keep your hands off for the next month. You may they find they're gone. ...Read more

How long would swollen lymph node usually last?

How long would swollen lymph node usually last?

Monitoring Centers: The lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. A lymph node "tastes" the lymph to see if anything bad is there like bacteria, viruses, cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and enlarges in response to the inflammation they create when they react. They shrink when all is better. ...Read more

4 year old had fever for two days, noticed swollen nodes on side of neck as well. Fever gone for two days now. When will lymph nodes go back down?

Weeks: Normal reactivity (swelling) in lymph nodes will cycle up/down over a 3-4 week period. Neck nodes are easily detected since they overlie muscles rather than being buried in tissue. If bug bites/colds/vaccines/skin rashes in the area occur they can persist. ...Read more

Swollen lymph nodes on my face, neck, collarbone and groin w/ night sweats, no signs of infection. Dr wants to wait two weeks for recheck? Is this ok?

Thats quite reason--: Able thing to do, as in 2 weeks the enlarged ln from most viral infections would be better and smaller as you feel better. Make sure you get a recheck with him. At that time, he'll probably run some tests depending on any localizing symptoms/ signs you have. Good luck. ...Read more

Lymph nodes on neck still slightly swollen 3 weeks after flu. GP says no cause for concern. Is this normal?

Lymph nodes on neck still slightly swollen 3 weeks after flu. GP says no cause for concern. Is this normal?

For a long time: After an illness that produces swollen lymph nodes the nodes can stay somewhat swollen and tender for a long time, even weeks. Sometimes a slight swelling can remain forever! That being said, the general trend week to week should be one of improvement, smaller size and less pain. If this does not occur you should follow-up with your doctor. ...Read more

Swollen cervical lymph nodes for 5 month now havnt shrunk or grew normal CBC doctors not worried does it mean cancer?

Not likely: Lymph nodes in the neck enlarge for lots of reasons. Often it's infection, sometimes immunizations. If they're small (< 1/2") they may just be scarred from a previous infection. Cancer may grow slowly , but typically if they were cancerous nodes they would have clearly enlarged over 5 months with no treatment. ...Read more
