How Long Does Skin Fungus Usually Last
A long time: The most common problem with a fungal infection is that people undertreat it. Even after the rash appears to have gone, you should continue to apply your medication for about two more weeks. Fungi can live very deep in the six and you want to treat the rash ideally for one complete skin cycle, which is six weeks.See 1 more doctor answer
Varies: This will vary with the causative fungus, severity of infection, location, type of treatment, immune statue of the patient and other factors.
2-4 weeks: Ketoconazole gel is used for 2-4 weeks, depending upon what is being treated.

Do I have a foot fungus? How can I get rid of dead peeling skin on my feet? I have very dry feet, the skin on the bottom of my feet have been peeling for as long as I can remember, I tried using a pumice stone, soaking them, getting a pedicure, but noth
There: There are several conditions that can cause peeling of the skin on your feet. Any process that triggers rapid renewal of the epidermis on your feet will contribute to thickened, peeling skin; in many cases this problem is merely due to an occupation that demands a lot of walking or standing. Your doctor can readily diagnose a fungal infection by obtaining a skin scraping and examining it under a microscope. If this doesn't reveal the cause of your peeling, he/she can investigate for other potential causes (circulation problems, dyshidrosis, ichthyosis, autoimmune disorders, etc.). If you haven't seen your doctor about this issue yet, I recommend you do so.See 1 more doctor answer
Scaly & itchy skin: Dry scaly itchy skin is usually associated with skin fungal infections. In some cases, there may be small blister like lesions with some yellowish fluid. There are many conditions with similar symptoms. Please have your doctor take a look for a clear diagnosis.
It can?: Tinea versacolor is the most common type of skin "fungus" that causes color changes. After it is treated the color usually returns to normal. There can be some permanent color change, but that is not usually the case. There are other fungal skin infections that could cause pigmentation changes, but they are not the usual ones.See 1 more doctor answer
Needs evaluation: You will need confirmation of the scalp fungus by a physician & likely require several weeks or months of oral medication to eliminate it if confirmed. Topical anti-fungal & shampoos can reduce some of the process, but the fungus gets down in the hair root & must be killed through the blood supply of the hair & scalp.
Skin fungus: Find out which one it is and use right med. Or try OTC Rx first and if that does not work see Dr.
What's the best topical to treat recurring skin fungus? I've used ketokonozol and others and it always returns.
Try oral meds.: There are two topical products that I'm aware of that are used for resistant cutaneous fungal infections, they are "lamisil at" and "lotrimin ultra". It would be helpful to submit skin scrapings for fungal culture to identify the fungus. You also might benefit from a course of oral antifungals which can get to places topicals cant. Talk to a doctor, verify your diagnosis, and treat it accordingly.
Assuming: Your diagnosis is correct, topical over-the-counter anti-fungal creams work very well, but since fungal spores live for 30 days, you must keep using it for 30 days, even if it clears up in only a day or two. If it doesn't clear, it's probably not a fungus.
Tinea versicolor: Tinea versicolor is a chronic yeast infection of the skin. The main symptom is patches of discolored skin with sharp borders and fine scale. This skin condition can be controlled but not cured. Treatment is with topical anti yeast medication like Nizoral cream or oral medication like ketoconazole.See 1 more doctor answer
