Angioedema: An allergic like reaction to Acyclovir is a possible explanation for your facial swelling. It can be accompanied by a rash, swollen face, lips, tongue, as well as throat swelling which could be life threatening. Would need to stop the medication. 'Shingles' usually appears in a dermatome (meaning that it only follows one single nerve distribution). Specific location: Shingles are going to be localized to the distribution of a specific nerve root & only on one side of the face.(never crosses the midline) It is often most painful before the spots emerge & rarely happens more than once.I've seen it as early as 15 months but it is unusual before late adulthood. Nope: Herpes zoster (shingles) can originate from any nerve, including a cranial nerve, causing an outbreak of the scalp, face, etc. Sometimes shingles is followed by ongoing pain due to post-herpetic neuropathy (PHN) from the involved nerve.
