Red doesn't diagnose: Red is but one thing we look at when visualizing an ear drum. Red alone does not an ear infection make. An ear drum can be red if child has fever, is crying, holding breath, etc. We also look at landmarks, how the light reflexes, whether the ear drum moves, whether there is fluid behind the drum. ETD: Sounds like trouble equalizing the pressure in your middle ear. This often creates a fullness or blockage, like you want to pop or clear your ears. It is called eustachian tube dysfunction (ETD). It cold last 2-3 wks. Decongestant either sprayed into the nose or taken orally can alleviate this problem. Probably: A middle ear infection that burst your ear drum and is draining may be a more aggressive infection. Take the Amoxicillin as prescribed. Your drainage should significantly improve in 2 to 3 days. In that case take all of the pills as recommended. If not improving in a few days call the doctor, you may need something stronger.
