See below: 5% Permethrin is applied over the entire body from the chin to the toes and left on for 8 to 14 hours before washing off. The treatment is repeated 1 week later. After your first Permethrin treatment is completed you can try some calamine lotion and some solarcaine to the areas that itch the most for symptomatic relief. The rash and itching can last over a week after the start of treatment.

How long does it take for a scabies rash to go away after treatment?

Scabies: Although sometimes referred to as the "seven-year itch, " scabies can be effectively treated with killing of the mite sarcoptes scabiei, preventing cross-contamination from a close contact and/or clothes/bedding sheets. Sometimes pruritus may be secondary to postscabetic dermatitis which in turn is secondary to the skin reaction to the scabies infestation that persists after effective eradication.

Trtd scabies w/5% perm crm 4x in last 5 wks. Rash imp after the last treat, but new bumps now appearing. Derm appt in 8 days. Reinf or post scabies?

Both possible: It's possible to get reinfected with scabies if you did not get rid of the source. Wash everything (clothes, towels, linens) and wrap in plastic unwashables for 5 days to kill the mites/eggs. Post-scabetic hypersensitivity can persist for 1-2 months even after proper treatment.

And in relation to my last post asking is it poss to have scabies 6/7 month, no rash but itching, the itching is only at the tops of my legs?

Probably not: The diagnosis of scabies is made by identifying organisms or their products in the skin by scrapping or biopsy. If there are not lesions to see, it cannot be diagnosed and most likely is not scabies. You should have your skin examined by your dermatologist.

Still scabies: If you were treated forvscabies. The medicine can clear the infection but the inflammation will require several days for the skin to return to normal. During this phase a prescription topical steroid is useful. Also check for any other possible sources such as pets.

Extremely itchy rash on stomach and sides, worse at night. It started gradually, became worse over the last several days. Could it be scabies?

Possibly: Problems like these can only be correctly handled by your doctor in person. He/she needs to listen to you, perform an examination and possibly run labs or other tests. That's the only way he/she can find out what's going on and what to do about it.

Unusual: You are correct in that it unusual to have scabies without a close contact. You should find relief within a week with the treatment. Keep in mind your itchiness may worsen a little with using the creme before it improves. Use antihistamines like zyrtec (cetirizine) for symptomatic relief. Good Luck!

Can a rash from scabies spread after permethrin treatment of the mites are killed? Just did treatment last night, rash on cheek now, not itchy

Can a rash from scabies spread after permethrin treatment of the mites are killed? Just did treatment last night, rash on cheek now, not itchy

Probably not but: Even if the mites are killed, they have left some droppings behind in the skin areas where they had visited. The allergic reaction to the droppings may linger on for a couple of more weeks. However it is uncommon to involve the face and thus the problem may not be scabies.

How post scabies manifested? Are there new rashes, new white head pimples, crawling?

Infected scabies: Sorry your question is not clear. Yes scabies can get infected. New pimples would probably be a different thing, Irrespective of that antibiotics would be needed.
