How long doea it take for Prozac (fluoxetine) to start working for depression and OCD? And is 20 mg is enough for depression and ocd?

TITRATE MEDS: Prozac (fluoxetine) at the right dose caqn make a difference even 3-4 days after you start. With that in mind, some people find 20 mg enough. Some require as much as 80mg. And some find Prozac (fluoxetine) doesn't work for them. Then your dr can add another med or switch to a snri.

I am suffering with antenatal depression and just been prescribed prozac (fluoxetine). Should I try it out for a bit before returning to work?

Pregnant & depressed: Being pregnant and depressed is not easy. Please don't assume Prozac (fluoxetine) should be your sole treatment of depression. Results are much better when combined with psychotherapy, so please make sure this is part of your treatment. Timing your return to work depends on your discussions with your psychiarist & your therapist. Prozac (fluoxetine) will take 4-6 weeks to show effectiveness.

What are the long term side effects of using prozac (fluoxetine)? I currently use it for my depression.

What are the long term side effects of using prozac (fluoxetine)? I currently use it for my depression.

There are issues: I agree with dr. Lindenbaum about prozac's relative safety, but there are issues in some people. You may never experience any problem, and your doctor may have prescribed it appropriately (for moderate to severe depression). But some have had movement disorders or "tics" develop - which may or may not go away. You may want to read dr. Joseph glenmullen's well-researched book "prozac backlash.".

I have been on anti-depressions for years, celxa, Paxil (paroxetine) and prozac, I'm don't feel like it helps anymore. Can you become immune to it after so long!?

I have been on anti-depressions for years, celxa, Paxil (paroxetine) and prozac, I'm don't feel like it helps anymore. Can you become immune to it after so long!?

Not immune: Immunity doesn't happen, but sometimes people may not respond as well to a single medication over time, or life stresses may cause depression to overtake a medication. The best thing to do is to keep working with your psychiatrist as there are many combinations of medications. Also consider psychotherapy along with medication, as the two together can be more effective. Hope this answer helps.

Does higher Prozac (fluoxetine) dosage mean its more potent? Or how does that work, I'm going from 20 to 40mg (DR) will this decrease my panic atks/depression more

Does higher Prozac (fluoxetine) dosage mean its more potent? Or how does that work, I'm going from 20 to 40mg (DR) will this decrease my panic atks/depression more

That's the hope: The 20 mg was a lower starting dose. If that did not completely control your symptoms after 4-6 weeks then it is appropriate to increase to 40 mg. The maximum dose is 80mg.

What do you recommend if I take 20mg of prozac (fluoxetine) evert day for depression; yesterday I bought some st johns wort (5000mg tablets), can what do you recommend if I take them together?

Why?: If you are not happy with prozac, (fluoxetine) talk to your doctor. If you are not happy with your doctor, get another doctor. I don't understand why you bought st. John's wort before you know what to do with it? The issue here is not whether combining Prozac (fluoxetine) with st. John's wort is good idea for you. The even more important problem is how to repair your relationship with your doctor.

I take prozac (fluoxetine), (fluoxetine) would taking procera avh or brainalert conflict with prozac (fluoxetine)? I have major depression otherwise am quite healthy

Hello.: Hello. I was trying to research procera avh for you. Kept getting company sites. I could not get a firm handle on the contents or how exacting their research was done. Did get a sense however, that there have been a number of complaints. I was very concerned when on one the pocera avh websites, I got into a loop when I tried to leave the site- it appeared to me that it was trying to lock me into some sort of aggreement. Boy, this doesn't seem ethical to me. I was going to try to thoroughly research this for you, but after the experience I just had i, I don't want to risk it. Sorry.

I am on Prozac (fluoxetine) 20 mg for OCD and depression 18 days so far how long does the side effects need to go?

Longer: Early side effects can take weeks or more to resolve. If bad side effects, dose lower (5mg/day for 1 week ; increase at that rate to limit side effects and reach the same dose and tolerate it better! Most side effects do resolve. Talk with your doctor.

I have depression and Prozac doesn't work well; and Lexopro and Effexor had terrible side affects. Counselling will not help. What are my options?

I have depression and Prozac doesn't work well; and Lexopro and Effexor had terrible side affects. Counselling will not help. What are my options?

See doctor: Counselling won't help? Have you tried and to no avail? It can be very effective without drug side effects but doesn't work for everyone. There are a number of other medical strategies. Can augment treatment by adding in another medication or there are a few other less used alternatives. Seeing your doctor to look at these options or referral to a psychiatrist may be helpful. Good luck

I suffer with crippling depression and anxiety. I take Prozac & have tried lex, cit, Zoloft (sertraline) etc & none really help. No one understands. What do I do?

Get therapy also: Are you being prescribed these medications by your primary care physician, or a psychiatrist? Medications are only part of treating depression/anxiety, and psychotherapy is essential. Some psychiatrists do both, but more often people work concurrently with a psychologist or other therapist. If you haven't already, you might see a psychiatrist -- could be more helpful, esp in complex cases.
