If you have petechia rash does it it spread quickly?

If you have petechia rash does it it spread quickly?

Variable: A petechial rash (caused by low platelets) can appear on any part of the body. It can stay localized, or appear on other parts of the body. It does not really "spread" like a rash caused by an infectious agent.

Doc confirmed localized petechia rash on shoulder, said no worry as there was a history of minor trauma as I had hit it. Said blood tests not needed?

What's the question?: You failed to formulate a question, though. If you want us to confirm the decision of your doc, it sounds correct to me, but without further history and exam, it's really hard to tell for sure.

My 10 year old daughter has slightly increased prothrombin time. Also has a possible petechia rash. Liver and platelets are normal. Any ideas why?

My 10 year old daughter has slightly increased prothrombin time. Also has a possible petechia rash. Liver and platelets are normal. Any ideas why?

Need evaluation: What is the actual prothrombin tine and what is her inr? If she does not have symptoms, it may be better to wait and watch. If she has more than "possible" petechiae, please see your pediatrician as it may need more history, physical examination and lab tests.

Who knows?: Hard to say with such limited history. If you have petechia like rash please get an appointment as soon as possible, it needs to have prompt medical attention and evaluation!

Common: It is not unusual to develop petechia as a result of scratching the skin - the duration of the petechia depends on how vigorously you scratch. It can last a few minutes, a few hours, or a few days.

If you have long sharp nails & scratch a lot, can this cause petechia? Thanks.

If you have long sharp nails & scratch a lot, can this cause petechia? Thanks.

Sort of: You could excoriate your skin with sharp nails and that may look like petechiae. Long nails do not cause a bleeding disorder, per se. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex.

Week or so: Are they on the cheeks and attributed to a recent cough? If so, They should clear up within a week. If they linger more than a week after the cough is resolved then go back in for another exam.

How long will it take for my petechia goes away after I start taking vitamin supplements?

How long will it take for my petechia goes away after I start taking vitamin supplements?

They may not: Petechiae are usually a result of abnormal platelets, or low platelets. You need to find out what the cause of your petechiae are. Please see a hematologist.

I had an influenza- like illness last week (tested negative). Now I have petechia on both legs from my ankles to hips, I otherwise feel good now.?

See doctor: Petechia can be a sign of inflammation of the blood vessels, called vasculitis. Even though you feel better, I suggest you have your doctor take a look, and probably do some simple blood tests to look for signs of inflammation and check your platelet count (platelets help in blood clotting). Call today. May be nothing, but it's best to get checked.

Is petechia a sign of hiv?

Is petechia a sign of hiv?

HIV: Petichiae occur due to either capillary fragility or to some defect in coagulation, usually platelet deficiency. The latter may occur due to a wide number of mechanisms, many of which can be seen in either acute HIV disease (splenic enlargement or bone marrow disease), or due to any of the infections or malignancies that following profound immune deficiency due to hiv/aids.

Does petechia skin come and go or get more under stress?

Does petechia skin come and go or get more under stress?

Petechiae: Petechiae are small red-purple spots on the skin that usually come from trauma or pressure. The very small capillary blood vessels in the skin to break and they leak a small amount of blood which accounts for the color of these spots. Stress is not a direct cause of these. Taking certain medications, like aspirin, will increase your tendency to have them. Alcohol use and vitamin c deficiency also.
