How Long Does Nasal Congestion Associated With Roseola Last
My 8wo baby has been plagued with nasal congestion. No fever. How can I make him comfortable? And how long does this usually last?
Congestion: You can use a saline nasal spray to loosen secretions and a small rubber bulb to gently aspirate much of this material out. These conditions can be present for variable durations depending on what is causing them. If allergy, may be there quite long until you identify the offending agent and remove or desensitize. If viral, usually about a week, but may be longer depending on the virus and baby. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Many people think that a nose gets congested (stuffy) from too much thick mucus. However, in most cases, the nose becomes congested when the tissues lining it become swollen. The swelling is due to inflamed blood vessels. Newborn infants must breathe through the nose. Nasal congestion in an infant's first few months of life can interfere with nursing, and in rare cases can cause serious breathing problems. Nasal congestion in older children and adolescents is usually just an annoyance, but it can cause other difficulties. A stuffy nose is usually caused by ...Read more

Chronic nasal congestion due to rhinitis. Are saline nasal sprays effective in the long term? Congestion will come back if stopped? Thanks.
Lots of Options: OTC non-sedating antihistamines like Allegra, Claritin, (loratadine) or Zyrtec are helpful for perennial allergic rhinitis symptoms, however the gold-standard treatment are daily intranasal steroid sprays if your symptoms are more severe. Avoidance of triggers is important as well and allergy shots are also an option. Saline sprays are useful but will not provide lasting relief used alone. See Allergist. ...Read more
My daughter is having nasal congestion from last 5-6 days, I am giving her prescribed med, please advise if giving her orange juice will help?
Not necessarily: You did not mention age or med, but in general, orange juice will have no effect on her nasal congestion. Infants benefit from saline nasal wash but seldom if ever benefit from congestion meds that tend to thicken nasal mucous.Older kids may, after they are old enough to blow their noses. Most take a week to 10 days to deal with a uri, while allergies will continue. ...Read more

Dghtr has fluid in her ears. Can a neti pot help, since she does have nasal congestion? How long should I wait before i bring her back to the dr?
Neti Pot and Fluid: Fluid in the ears means the eustachian tubes are plugged, and most likely, the nose is stopped up. Try having her blow up a balloon for a few days, hoping to "pop" her ear ears. The fluid sits there due to poorly function eustachian tubes, the openings in the back of the nose to each middle ear space. Unless there are other symptoms, wait ~ 6 weeks to see her doctor again. Most fluid clears in tim. ...Read more
After successfully using Tamsulosin for years (BPH), its nasal congestion is no longer well controlled by Flonase. What are my alternatives?
ENT: Since alpha blocker drugs like tamsulosin cause nasal congestion by vasodilation (as opposed to the vasoconstriction of a decongestant) I can see no reason why nasal steroids would be particularly helpful with congestion solely due to this medication. I suggest you see an ENT or allergy physician for evaluation. ...Read more
Day 4/10 abx, can't sleep last few days nasal congestion and cough. What should I do?Need to go back to doctor?Uti feels better, but my pneumonia is same!
It takes a while: For pneumonia symptoms to get better. I would not expect a great improvement on day 4 of antibiotics. Are you sleeping with a cool mist humidifier? Guiafenesin with dextromorphan will help the cough as will honey in water with lemon juice. If not improving any after 7 days go back to dr. ...Read more
