How Long Does Nasal Congestion Associated With Nasal Foreign Body Last
My 8wo baby has been plagued with nasal congestion. No fever. How can I make him comfortable? And how long does this usually last?
Congestion: You can use a saline nasal spray to loosen secretions and a small rubber bulb to gently aspirate much of this material out. These conditions can be present for variable durations depending on what is causing them. If allergy, may be there quite long until you identify the offending agent and remove or desensitize. If viral, usually about a week, but may be longer depending on the virus and baby. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Nasal foreign body: Assuming you have a foreign body in the nose, the foremost strategy would be to remove the foreign body. Your nose will be much happier that way, too. If the foreign body can't be taken out right away, avoid sleeping on your back, breath with your mouth open and expedite getting it out. Removal of nasal foreign bodies is typically not something that should wait...Not even longer than a day. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Could a very small nasal foreign body that pushed thru somewhere in the cavity cause endocarditis?
Question unclear: Anything that places bacteria in the bloodstream, particularly if the organism has a high pathogenic potential, creates a risk of endocarditis, but this often requires the presence of some pre-existing cardiac condition that creates a risk. It is doubtful that what you describe will cause endocarditis, but have no idea what "pushed thru somewhere in the cavity" means. Elucidate. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Dghtr has fluid in her ears. Can a neti pot help, since she does have nasal congestion? How long should I wait before i bring her back to the dr?
Neti Pot and Fluid: Fluid in the ears means the eustachian tubes are plugged, and most likely, the nose is stopped up. Try having her blow up a balloon for a few days, hoping to "pop" her ear ears. The fluid sits there due to poorly function eustachian tubes, the openings in the back of the nose to each middle ear space. Unless there are other symptoms, wait ~ 6 weeks to see her doctor again. Most fluid clears in tim. ...Read more
