How long should I avoid sun exposure and tanning after laser hair removal?

How long should I avoid sun exposure and tanning after laser hair removal?

Rest of your life!: Honest, ultraviolet causes wrinkles, sunspots, premature loss of skin tone and elasticity, not to mention skin cancers, some of them fatal. Do you really think any caring doctor will "approve" of tanning? But if you tan while the hair removal areas are pink or inflamed, you could also end up with permanent discoloration or hyperpigmentation. Can you say "5 o'clock shadow" where hair used to be? ...Read more

What are the side effect of laser hair removal ?is it causing cancer in long term?!

What are the side effect of laser hair removal ?is it causing cancer in long term?!

Not a cancer risk: Anyone can do a bad study to "show" that anything causes any cancer, just based on how people answer questions. The things that actually do this and hold up either mutate genes (which lasering a follicle won't do) or result in prolonged hyperproliferation of cells (same). Don't worry about this. Laser hair removal is a huge help for many people. Best wishes. ...Read more

Are there any long term side-effects to laser hair removal? (other than the promise of no more waxing?!) :) cancer/tumour etc?

Actually, no.: Since laser hair removal uses non-ionizing energy, there is no cancer-inducing radiation, and the actual laser light penetrates no more than a couple of millimeters at hair removal wavelengths. Multiple sessions are necessary since hair follicles are susceptible only in specific growth phases. Hair and a few sebaceous glands are gone, but no problem unless too much energy=burn or blister. ...Read more

Could laser hair removal cause a long-term burning sensation on my shins? I don't have a rash, and it is worse when touched. Thanks!

Tough one: There is some post laser discomfort but it should not last for weeks on end. Did you have initial complications like burns or blisters? I worry about a nerve injury developing a complex pain syndrome in the shins. I would see a neurologist if this is going on for over 2 weeks possible a pain management specialist. Especially if the skin is getting tighter, shine and painful ...Read more
