Sero-conversion: The whole concept of delayed sero-conversion dates back to old & sloppy tests. PCR testing now will show virus in the blood with or without antibodies. If you need to cling to the old adages...at 6 months..99.99% of the population will have developed antibodies after an exposure..thus the 6 month window. How long should I wait to get an accurate HIV test after (maybe) got exposed to it? And how long does the test itself take to give back the results?

It can however be too early for some people if they test too soon after an exposure to catch the virus before it becomes apparent on usual blood screening tests. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
