3 months to 1 year

Scoliosis
There are multiple types of scoliosis. Recovery depends on your age, the location of the surgery, the number of levels fused, your bone quality, and the type of surgery. This question should be discussed with your surgeon as the answer varies quite a bit depending on the exact cause of the scoliosis, many patient factors, and the type of surgery performed.

Can surgery be used to treat congenital scoliosis in children? My child was born with congenital scoliosis. Can she have surgery to correct it, or does she have to wait until she's an adult? .

Talk to MD

Puberty
You have to find out wether the scoliosis is affecting the child. In severe cases scoliosis can cause pain and interfere with breathing. In minor cases it is detectable on examination, but is not interfering with the patient's lifestyle. If it is the latter case you may not need surgery at all. Talk to your MD about options.

How long does it take to have scoliosis back surgery?

Depends on severity

Scoliosis
The procedure can take anywhere from 3 or 4 hours, to much longer. It depends on the severity of the curve, how many segments need to be fused, and if there are any congenital anomalies that need to be addressed (ie. hemivertebrae).

How long until you can be active after scoliosis surgery?

depends

Gait
it depends in part on what you mean by active. we encourage our surgical patients to be as active as they can within certain activity restrictions as soon as possible after surgery. so, for example, a person can walk and do light activities as soon as they feel comfortable after surgery. However, for 8-12 weeks, they are restricted from doing any bending, heavy lifting, or twisting. Thank you.

How long do you have to wait to jump after scoliosis surgery?

Postop activity

Osteoporosis
That is a very personal decision you need to discuss with your surgeon. It also depends on type of surgery, number of levels fused, anterior or posterior, risk factors for osteoporosis or failed fusion. Generally, you're looking at 6 months for posterior surgeries. 3 months for anterior fusion.

First and foremost you should talk to your surgeon regarding this matter.
