How Long Does It Take To Recover From A Broken Fibula Typically
8 to 12 weeks: A standard fractured bone that is in place without major displacement takes 8 to 12 weeks to heal in a healthy person with proper immobilization. Smoking, diabetes, osteoporosis, and other chronic conditions can prolong or delay this healing. Premature mobilization or weight bearing on the extremity could also cause delayed or non healing.See 1 more doctor answer
6 wks w/ proper care: Most fractures take approximately 6 weeks to heal assuming proper care. Although a non-weight bearing bone, fibula fractures can be painful with certain motions; be sure to get it properly evaluated and treated. See your doctor (family doctor, internist or orthopedic surgeon) for best results.See 1 more doctor answer
Depends on the: fracture. IF it needs surgery it will take anywhere from 8-12 weeks. If it is a simple non-dispalced fibula fracture at the distal ankle you may be back as early as 6-8 weeks. Fractures in general take 8 weeks to heal.
If you don't wear a cast or a boot for a broken fibula and tibia what will happen because I take my boot off a lot.?
Cast removal: early: The bones may not heal properly, perhaps heal crookedly (out of alignment) or not heal at all (malunion, I think) or may luckily heal ok. How long have you been casted? When you remove the cast, do you walk on the foot? Or use crutches? Older you are, greater the risk of (the above) occurring. Why do you remove the support? Itching. Poor fit? Hurts? Best to discuss with your doctor!
How long until I can walk again after surgery from a broken fibula? I am already toe touch walking with the crutches.
Broken fibula: It's best to discuss this with your surgeon. Weight bearing will be determined by what was done at surgery and the type if injury.See 1 more doctor answer
I would like to know how long is surgery for orif for a right broken fibula, it is the lower part of the fibula close to the ankle?
Hour or less: If you have a fractured fibula the average time would be about an hour or less (typically 30-40 minutes). I don't really focus on the length but quality of care done. Obviously if your surgeon takes more than a couple hours that is a bit too long as greatly increases risk of infection and lengthens tourniquet time which can cause other issues.See 1 more doctor answer

8 weeks: 8 weeks with xray that show healing is done
What r the symptoms of a slightly broken fibula. I got x-rays and I just want to know the symptoms?
No such thing: It's either broken or not. You may have sprained your ankle which presents with pain, swelling on outside part of your ankle. Typically pain is below tip of bone. If your pain persist despite two weeks of treatment (splint:boot and crutches) you should followup with your orthopedist. May consider MRI to rule out an occult fracture.
Wait Bearing: Once the bone callous is forming and the surgeon has removed the cast, (if there is one,) you can start with non-weight bearing exercises. Weight -bearing hat may be sooner if you are younger - and later if there is any problem with your balance/ coordination.
So that it: Doesn't get worse......Get a more detailed answer ›
