How long does it take to recover from a broken fibula typically?

How long does it take to recover from a broken fibula typically?

8 to 12 weeks: A standard fractured bone that is in place without major displacement takes 8 to 12 weeks to heal in a healthy person with proper immobilization. Smoking, diabetes, osteoporosis, and other chronic conditions can prolong or delay this healing. Premature mobilization or weight bearing on the extremity could also cause delayed or non healing.

How effectively would a healthy person recover from a broken fibula?

6-8 weeks: A healthy person without confounding medical problems such as smoking, diabetes, bone or thyroid disease should recover from a fibular fracture in 6-8 weeks. The type of fracture also determines recovery time. Simple fractures heal within 6-8 weeks. More complex fractures take longer.

On average, how long will a broken fibula take to heal?

6 wks w/ proper care: Most fractures take approximately 6 weeks to heal assuming proper care. Although a non-weight bearing bone, fibula fractures can be painful with certain motions; be sure to get it properly evaluated and treated. See your doctor (family doctor, internist or orthopedic surgeon) for best results.

How much time does a broken fibula take to heal?

Depends on the: fracture. IF it needs surgery it will take anywhere from 8-12 weeks. If it is a simple non-dispalced fibula fracture at the distal ankle you may be back as early as 6-8 weeks. Fractures in general take 8 weeks to heal.

If you don't wear a cast or a boot for a broken fibula and tibia what will happen because I take my boot off a lot.?

If you don't wear a cast or a boot for a broken fibula and tibia what will happen because I take my boot off a lot.?

Cast removal: early: The bones may not heal properly, perhaps heal crookedly (out of alignment) or not heal at all (malunion, I think) or may luckily heal ok. How long have you been casted? When you remove the cast, do you walk on the foot? Or use crutches? Older you are, greater the risk of (the above) occurring. Why do you remove the support? Itching. Poor fit? Hurts? Best to discuss with your doctor!

Broken fibula: It's best to discuss this with your surgeon. Weight bearing will be determined by what was done at surgery and the type if injury.

I would like to know how long is surgery for orif for a right broken fibula, it is the lower part of the fibula close to the ankle?

I would like to know how long is surgery for orif for a right broken fibula, it is the lower part of the fibula close to the ankle?

Hour or less: If you have a fractured fibula the average time would be about an hour or less (typically 30-40 minutes). I don't really focus on the length but quality of care done. Obviously if your surgeon takes more than a couple hours that is a bit too long as greatly increases risk of infection and lengthens tourniquet time which can cause other issues.

What r the symptoms of a slightly broken fibula. I got x-rays and I just want to know the symptoms?

What r the symptoms of a slightly broken fibula. I got x-rays and I just want to know the symptoms?

No such thing: It's either broken or not. You may have sprained your ankle which presents with pain, swelling on outside part of your ankle. Typically pain is below tip of bone. If your pain persist despite two weeks of treatment (splint:boot and crutches) you should followup with your orthopedist. May consider MRI to rule out an occult fracture.

When u should u start rehab for a broken fibula and tibia?

Wait Bearing: Once the bone callous is forming and the surgeon has removed the cast, (if there is one,) you can start with non-weight bearing exercises. Weight -bearing hat may be sooner if you are younger - and later if there is any problem with your balance/ coordination.

What can be done if oxycontin is ineffective in treating the pain in my leg from a broken fibula?

Re-evaluation: Oxycontin is not typically prescribed for a fibula fracture as it is a strong, long-lasting narcotic pain med. If your pain is not controlled with ice, elevation, splinting, and narcotic pain meds, you should be re-evaluated by the er or your orthopaedist.

I have a broken fibula, I'm fairly active. What's the best kind of cast to have to accommodate that lifestyle?

I have a broken fibula, I'm fairly active. What's the best kind of cast to have to accommodate that lifestyle?

Fibula Fracture: Assuming it's a stable fracture and nondisplaced or minimally displaced you probably won't need a cast at all. A walking boot and weight bearing as tolerated is usually the most common recommendation in this situation. Best of luck!

What can I do for this pain on the outside of my ankle from broken fibula?

See your PCP for ---: A pain med like Ibuprofen or aleve (naproxen). You should be in a cast or a splint. Preferably see an orthopod who will be monitoring you healing. Do not walk on that side unless cleared by him/her. Rest, elevate the limb to reduce the pain and swelling as well.

Please advise if it's normal for my leg to get thinner where my broken fibula is located?

Yes: This occurs because of muscle atrophy, which means that the muscle decrease in size/mass as a result of not being used. Typically your muscle strength and mass will be restored once you are able to work on physical therapy/strengthening after your injury.
