Fracture (Definition)

A fracture is a broken bone. As there is cartilage at the end of many bones at the joint, a fracture may also include a break in the cartilage. Fractures and broken bones are the same thing. It seems that many believe that a "fracture" is a lesser injury or an incomplete break in the bone, but this is not correct. Fractures may be displaced or ...Read more

Fractures of c1 and c2, bones show
vertical cracks. After over 15 weeks there is no evidence of healing and
no known situation or condition to cause ?

Interesting...: Did you have any trauma to cause the fracture? Healing depends on your age, other medical problems, and degree of displacement with the fractures and whether or not you were immobilized (e.g. Collar etc.) and bone quality. Many fractures usually heal within 3 months if only minimally displaced and immobilized. Key things to know is whether you are symptomatic (pain, neuro deficit) or unstable. ...Read more

Varies : It varies somewhat based upon a more specific description of the fractures. That being said, 12 weeks of immobilization for healing would be pretty standard. Certainly would want to make sure it is followed closely as some C2 fractures can displace and require either a halo or surgery. ...Read more

How long does it take for a C2 vertabrae fracture to heal, my son fractured the vertabrae in his neck back in may, now he is experiencing numbness. ?

Contact neuro: Of course the numbness could be due to a number of issues, but a neuropathy or other issue stemming from the fracture would be the most concerning. I had a C2 fracture and have been wearing a neck brace. Been told to take neck brace off after 3 months and now get pain in upper back near scapula?

Re check: The source of your discomfort may be that the muscles in the back of your neck that support your head maybe weak from not having been used during the time the brace was on. It may also be that the nerves that exit the area where the fracture was are still slightly impinged or may be still recovering from the original injury. Best to be reevaluated by the surgeon who did your procedure ...Read more

My husband fractured his C2 a couple of days ago. They did not opt for surgery or a halo and have him in a neck brace and sent him home the day after the incident. Is this a good sign?
